I was under the impression people did that because they are trying to keep their number private, but fair enough. makes sense.

Numbers are assigned for various things. They're not actually activated for membership until dues are paid. So you can have a rush of non-members purchasing goods from the shop and subsequently have a run on numbers.

Did not know numbers where assigned for the free memberships too. Makes sense then.

What's the rationale on having that placeholder? If a free membership decides to join, they get a new number anyway.

The non-active number would then become active, a new number wouldn't be assigned.

But that would give the person seniority based on when they activated their free account.

If this is correct, that would mean hypothetically someone could have signed up for a free account in 2003 and become a paid member for the first time on January 23rd and they would have the same seating priority on this tour as someone who has paid annual dues for 15 years. I could be wrong, but almost positive that a free account holder who decides to become a paid member gets a new number just the same as when someone's membership lapses and they rejoin.

Whether you believe it or not I'm not here to debate, just repeating what 10C has already confirmed. The situation you describe is extremely unlikely so in that sense the impact would be virtually nil if it were to happen.

I originally signed up in June 2007, but only became a paid member in 2013. My number is 501xxx which is in line with others that joined around 2013! Why I never joined up sooner is beyond me as I bought 10 the day it was released! Oh well!

I remember a few years ago someone plotted all these on a graph in a thread. It was cool to see the trend in amount of members joining and when.

if anyone finds it, please post it, I’d love to see it again.

Yeah, I'll take 3rd row though...I did enjoy it back in the day though pre-2009 when I was able to be front row for the few shows I was able to make.

Assume these are rejoins who’ve had their membership lapse... i wish I held onto my number from 94! Joined two or three times since then but know better since rejoining in 13 than to let it lapse again!

Not sure if I'm right, but always assumed they did 1-2 lotto then filled out 3-8 then did 9-10 lotto. As someone normally in 3-8, I'd have no beef with 9-10 but would rather see someone where that represents a real upgrade get a chance.
