Relax. They will accommodate people without smartphones. The 10C has said so - they do indeed have a plan. Just email them after the draw. I think it would be nice if the 10C would make an actual announcement about this detail, but it has been posted several times in several threads at least. PS - you're getting radiated just by walking around, smartphone or no smartphone. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a flip phone too-have had it for about 14 years now and don't plan to give it up! Ten Club said that would sort anyone who doesn't have a smart phone.
Where dud you see it that they would sort this out?

People who resist technology......it's not like a smart phone costs a lot, and actually they can be pretty convenient at times.....reminds me of my friend who buys cds, rips them to his computer, transfers them to an iPod then puts the cd in a cupboard never to be seen again. AND he has Spotify, where he could just download the record anyway, and if you want a decent physical copy you'd be better off buying vinyl. Some people need a serious conversation with themselves!

I wonder how many people trying to game the system and transfer tickets will claim that they don’t have a smart phone.

Yeah, it would've been nice if it was announced when they sent out the e-mails for the shows.
It also would've been nice if they could let us know how they will sort this out. Unless, ther is a reason why they haven't, yet?
What's the reasoning for the no hard ticket stance? Environmental? You force say even a handful of fans to buy phones and right there you have harmed the environment way more 50,000 pieces of paper being printed. The amount of fossil fuels and other damaging environmental ingredients like the precious metals that go into making a phone surpass anything that printing out some tickets would. Not to mention we don't even know what the effects of the radiation are and probably won't for a generation.
Hey I own one, and sorry for the rant but it's just obnoxious that the expectation is we all need one. There are a lot of times I wish I didn't have one and I'm honestly envious of those who live happily without them.
It's to stop scalpers, not for the environment.
It won't stop scalpers. It actually makes it better for them because the ticket is transferable to one person and you will know where your seats are before the show. This is their way in. They were pretty much deterred before this but now they are able to buy, know where there seat is, sell and transfer.
I find it refreshing how many of you don't have smart phones. I posted a comment in another thread concerned whether my smart phone would pass the muster so to speak because it's not an expensive Android phone. I then received insults about my age, etc. I wonder if these same board members would have the guts to say those insults to my face. I highly doubt it. It's easy to hide behind a keyboard. It's also sad to miss out on life experiences because you are addicted to your smart phone. And that's exactly what it is, an addiction. So make all the comments you want about people without expensive or any smart phone at all. It won't bother us, we'll be too busy enjoying the best live band ever.
I have an iPhone 4s, from about 2011. It shuts down sometimes. I figure maybe I'll update by summer, but I don't really like updating b/c the companies say I should, and my phone works, more or less. I kind of want to get away from my cell phone. Folks know how to get a hold of me, if they need to. Anyway, I imagine 10C will look out for luddites like me, if it comes to it.

I am probably among the oldest ones on here, but I don't mind if I get insults about my age. LOL. I also don't have a smart phone and never plan to get one. However, I am glad to know that I'll be able to see PJ again, smart phone or not! I just hope they plan arenas again, since I don't plan to see them in stadiums.

I meant to say "play arenas" again! Must be old age talking! Ha, ha.
Hopefully there's an option for hard copy pick up at will call? I can't think of any other solution for the smartphoneless.
My concern is roaming charges are insane when I travel to the US, so I turn data off my phone. I won't be able to login if it's something you can't store on your phone....

When we went to see them in Toronto in 2011 I used my work phone for data - gps directions, internet, etc and was unsure if I was going to get a bill from work for big data fees but nothing showed up.

Hopefully there's an option for hard copy pick up at will call? I can't think of any other solution for the smartphoneless.

I don't get a work phone :( It would come out of my own bill. Usually I go dark and go wifi only. I usually text over talk anyways, and messenger handles that just fine. I'd just have issues if I have to login at the venue (if I couldn't access wifi).
I suppose if 10c's solution doesn't work out, I could pay extra for a US sim card (or roam mobility) and swap my sim card when entering the US.
There are plenty of options at least in Canada for saving on data fees when traveling to another country. Just call up your mobile provider and see what kind of one time plan they can give you for a reasonable price.

It depends on your provider. I'm on Public mobile and I'm on this awesome plan that's only $37/month but includes 4gb of data. The downside is public mobiles roaming fee's are 30 day packages.. meh.
I'm better off buying a roam mobile sim, and using it for the few day's I'm in seattle. End's up being about $5/day.
Still I'd rather not pay it. The question is, is if the 10c offers an alternative to smartphones.. are they going to freakout when alot of people ask for it?

I'm with Rogers - $6/day for Roam Like Home in the States. Thankfully I just end up getting it all credited back afterwards but generally speaking it's fairly reasonable for 1-2 days. My father is with Telus and has the grandfathered $20 flat fee for roaming in the States (essentially the same as Roam Like Home) during his bill cycle - depending on the dates he's there vs his bill cycle date he can opt to not use data and has a grandfathered feature to text at no charge back which certainly helps.

You're right, I'll have a conversation with myself right now:
Dear Self, Can you believe the swindle the record companies are pulling with streaming? It looked pretty bleak for the record companies at the turn of the millennium. They had adopted a technology in the mid-1980s, the Compact Disc, that led to rampant piracy. It wasn't a problem in the beginning because computer technology in the mid-1980s was in the stone age. However, with the introduction of the Internet and cheaper storage in the 1990s, the sharing of these digital files became a problem. The record companies responded with lawsuits against Napster and against grandmothers whose grandsons were distributing files using grandma's Internet. Their PR took a serious hit.
But then something miraculous happened! The iPod! The record companies were shocked that people were willing to pay money for inferior audio. However, the issue of piracy still remained. So, they introduced Digital Rights Management (DRM). You will share these files over Steve Jobs' dead body! But DRM wasn't all that popular and Apple eventually dropped it. Oh man, what could they possibly do to stop piracy?
Then three things happened...the loudness wars, Record Store Day, and streaming. People started noticing that albums that came on CD were getting louder. More compression was applied, the audio was clipping, and the waveform looked like a brick wall. People started hating on CDs! This was what the record companies wanted all along. And what's this movement about supporting independent record stores? People are buying vinyl again? And they're willing to pay twice as much for a record than a CD? Perfect! You can't stick a record in a computer and extract a perfect copy of it! We'll go back in time to before computers! Let's amp up vinyl production!
But then the real godsend came along for the record companies...streaming! We'll eliminate all consumer ownership of digital files altogether. We will give people the illusion that they have control over what they're listening to, when we control 100% of it! Piracy solved! We'll target the new generation who are glued to their phones, they're so worried about convenience and I-want-it-right-now that they won't even realize what we're doing! Oh, we're getting complaints from artists that they're not getting paid enough? Well, too bad, it's better than not getting paid at all!
However, there's a problem with streaming. Storage is not infinite. Even lossy compressed files take up space. So, like all streaming services, there's a limit to what they can offer. So, the record companies won't even bother with the stuff that won't sell. That really obscure record that's a personal favorite of yours? Forget about it. It's OK, though, because you still have a CD copy of it, right? Oh, what's that, you threw it out with all your other CDs because you thought it would be available for streaming forever? Well, here's a 30 dollar vinyl of it in your favorite record store!
I've noticed that more and more bands are not even offering CD copies for their new albums, because they've caught on and realized what the record companies have realized. Streaming is the solution to piracy. It's better to get paid peanuts than nothing at all. You never hear artists complaining about streaming anymore.
These are all the reasons why I will never be complicit in the record companies' swindle. Thank you for making me have a serious conversation with myself. I'll just be over here, still listening to my CD rips.

Yep there's no grey area of owning multiple formats.............call me a heathen, but I can't discern any great difference between the cd rips I have on my pc, compared with the same songs from Spotify (I'm paid up, so higher quality?). It's certainly not as noticeable as the difference between cd/streaming and vinyl. Belly aching about the changes in the way we consume music is pretty futile, it is what it is.
Streaming offers different advantages, I find as a user. It's much easier to discover new artists, they're there at the click of a button. If I like them enough, and enjoy their record enough, I'll buy it on vinyl, and go see them live if I get a chance. Plus, I don't have to haul a load of cds about in my car, I can just play whatever I want through my phone. I'm not saying that streaming is perfect, I'd definitely agree that artists should receive a better cut, but then that's not an issue with the platform itself, it's more to do with the fat cats who run it. I don't know what the answer to that is. There's also the question, do artists deserve the vast sums of money they used to make?

Dear Self,
Can you believe the swindle the record companies are pulling with streaming?

'Smartphones are nearly ubiquitous among younger adults,' said Pew researcher Aaron Smith, noting that 92 percent of adults under 29 own one.
But he added that now three-fourths of those 50 and older were smartphone users, as were more than four in 10 among people 65 and older.
