With such a shity week that it's been, with the Las Vegas shootings and Tom Petty dying. I'm posting this beautiful song again with the video.
I find that the vibe of this music seems to fit the moment.
Michael Kiwanuka what a beautiful voice what a beautiful man to provide us with beautiful music, that helps to keep us going in these tough times.https://youtu.be/nOubjLM9Cbc

"just another human being"
Maybe I am a fool - but if so, I am a happy, loved and loving one.
And....there are times I take music, and its impact on my life, for granted. Tonight is NOT one of those timeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fHDIUn-x-A

This song is over 25 years old that had in my collection but never noticed I had. It can be perceived and written as a song about lost love, lost relationships or what drove the writing of the song. Two close friends of vocalist Phillip A. one committed suicide and his other friend also ended his life following the other. The band helped in the writing of the song, not in a way of speaking suicidal death but more to the end of a relationship in love or the end of a friendship. The song hit me over the summer as it spoke to me as I had a long lost love relationship.....the words came through perfectly about me.
Here's a cover of the song then I'll try to post the that's real....PANTERA......Cemetary Gateshttps://youtu.be/6YOKU4eJdNs

Reverend, Reverend is this some conspiracy?Play "Cemetery Gates"on Amazon Music
Crucified for no sins
An image beneath me
Whats within our plans for life
It all seems so unreal
I'm a man couldn't have feel this world
Left in my misery
The Reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
It's nothing new for him to see
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had
Sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see
Now is your (face)
Well I guess
You took my youth
I gave it all away
Like the birth of a
New-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died
I couldn't cry
The pride within my soul
You left me incomplete
Overload as the memories now unfold.
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the
Cemetery gates
Sometimes when I'm alone
I wonder aloud
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free
Belongs to me at last
Through all those
Complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died
I should've cried and spared myself some pain
Left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates

So a crazy thing happened about 14 years ago. My favorite local small town bar that I frequent has some really good bands during the summer. One of the bartenders here used to work in a Chicago bar and booked bands there. Now he works here in our small lakeside town, he was able to get some pretty good, better than average talent to come up from Chicago to our local bar here.
So back in the mid-nineties there was a song I heard on MTV just twice called Lack of Water by The Why Store. I liked it but I only heard it twice and then totally forgot about it. Fast forward to 2003, there's a band on the events calendar called Chris Shaffer, my buddy who books the bands said the week before hey, don't miss Chris Shaffer, you like this one. And I did not know that Chris Shaffer was the lead singer/songwriter of the Why Store at the time. So the band starts up and plays a really good first set. This is not a cover band, this is original stuff. I didn't know any of the songs I just liked them all though & thought damn, these guys are good!. Weird funky and psychedelic, and some rockers. At the start of the second set the singer Chris Shaffer says here's my one song that was on the charts for a while Lack of Water. And then all of a sudden it dawned on me this must be the guy from the Why Store which I'd only heard on MTV twice and forgot about. I went and asked my buddy who books the bands and he said yep that's Chris from The Why Store.
Just an incredible 3 hours set and then my buddy invited me to the after bar. Chris likes tequila. So had some tequila & smoked part of a J with these guys it was just a pretty damn fun night. He doesn't tour much at all anymore everytime I look at the schedule that's all in and around Indianapolis. Went and saw them down at the House of Blues in Chicago about 2005, and that's it.
Give this video a 45 minute trial see if you dig it. Cheers!https://youtu.be/dvMLfkJSe-8

Thanks for that hedonist....
I feel like this is a good place for the Obscure music & old favorites. Stuff that most of us haven't heard but should hear. I posted this one earlier but I don't know if I got overlooked because it's above the fold. This is a friend of mine named Mike Himebaugh, and to continue The Melancholy mood that you've got going here I will post this. It's very slow not catchy. This guy just has a higher octave than most of what I listen to. He sings like a bird. But if you listen to Easy River a few times it will begin to pull at your heart strings a bit.
It's about starting life having drawn the short straw before you even know your alive. Learning how to go with the flow and persevere. Like most good music, it takes a few listens before it starts to grow on you.
Easy Riverhttps://youtu.be/AwitNLlXA2A
& I can't help myself. Here is one more that will lighten the mood. Called
Running Home. There is just to much shit going on in the world. Music is still the most healing art form as Jeff Ament pointed out. Alright...

And here's a song called
Movie Star
This is a Great Jam band from Chicago called
Mr Blottohttps://youtu.be/cTJXwpMRDDo
This song is extremely groovy & haunting at the same time. This song requires headphones (so you can better hear the exquisite drums and bass and instruments), & 2 drinks & a smoke, because it's a 12 minute jam. The song came out on the Mr Blotto album Cabbages & Kings in 2001. But of course live it's much better
It goes like this.
sad Mardi Gras
we have made confetti of the law
you see it all
laissez fair is written on your wall
take a while with me,
and you will see
I'm living like a movie star
mad Carnival
the writing on the wall
is pure Brazilian
you see it all
washing off your feet
with sweat of millions
stopped to catch your breath,
the night has died the death
just like a movie star
(Halftime)
hey movie star
how the devil do you keep from waking?
I know you are
Waltzing through a life
you're only faking,
watch me turn my back
and fade into the black
just like a movie star
