Which version do you prefer? Jar of Flies or Unplugged
Just an amazing tune.

That is nearly impossible to say. If I had to pick one I think I would say Unplugged just because you can put a visual to it and see Layne's face when he's singing those dark as hell lyrics.

The emotion that comes through in the Unplugged version has always blown me away; one of my all time favorite tunes!<a href="http://www.shawnsmithsinger.com">Shawn Smith</a> / <a href="http://www.thebandbrad.com">Brad</a> / <a href="http://www.allhailthecrown.com">All Hail the Crown</a> / <a href="http://www.satchelpartnership.com">Satchel</a>

unplugged! although jar of flies is my favourite album by them, the reception the crowd gives Layne when he walks out just after Sean gives me goosebumps0

The unplugged is so sad to watch. Seeing how far along in his addiction he was. Such a fucking waste.. Please, stay clear of the horse boys and girls. It just isn't worth the pain..None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

Unplugged. One of my alltime favorite songs and this version is AMAZING. Could literally listen to it every day.
Don't know if anyone has heard the Ryan Adams cover he just released, pretty good job in my opinion:

If I'm listening, it's easily the studio version over Unplugged. Watching Unplugged would trump listening to either though.
I'm surprised nobody has really said studio. I've always been a sucker for in studio perfection over the live thing.0 -

Ryan Adams must be a bit of an AIC fan having covered 'Down In A Hole' before. Gutted I missed his latest UK tour.
Anyway back to the question I think I prefer Unplugged. The way he just seems to causally sit down and start singing this beautiful emotional song. Incredible.2007 London

Old thread, justifiably revived, fantastic song. I so badly wanted to go against the grain here and choose the studio version. Had to check myself before I wrecked... So I did a blind listen of the Unplugged, and good lord. Better than I remember it. To me, Layne's wordless, high/falsetto oooooo's and Cantrell's lead play on the acoustic really stood out. I love the studio version, but this performance was outstanding. Listening to the whole show now. Miss that band.0

it's my favourite AIC song, and the unplugged version is so haunting and raw, it wins.
I've never gotten to see it live though. They never played it the one time I saw AIC at lolla, and I've never seen them play it since the reunion
