more home runs have been hit this year
Yeah, I'm baffled with this one.

Where's the sports science on this?  Were the fences moved in?  Is the strike zone smaller?  Are they juicing the ball?  Are the players juicing again?!?

With all seriousness, when I watched Judge on his first half tare he would hit popups and they would go out.  Is his swing that perfect that he addresses the ball just right?  Is he that strong?

Watching he and Stanton during the HRD was like watching Gods amongst men...  They were head and shoulders above everyone else.

The Cubs have 6 guys with 20 HR on the roster (Rizzo, Bryant, Contreras, Schwarber, Happ, Baez) and 5 of them are age 25 or under (Rizzo is 28).  Neither has happened before in franchise history.

There are rumblings that the ball has been tighter/wound tighter..

Reds are 16 games out of the Wild Card, lol.

Reds suck, but have 6 guys north of 20 HRs also....and have an outside shot to have 4-5 guys with 30.
Votto - 35 (in an MVP type of season, if his team didn't suck such dong)
    Duvall - 31 (thanks Giants!)
    Schebler - 27
    Gennett - 26
    Suazez - 26
    Cozart - 23

Too bad our pitchers were the worst all season.  Have some good, young, arms but will find a way to F it up.

HR's are up, but strike outs are WAY up.  I'm guessing this is causation, not correlation.

You also see the game played fundamentally different now.  You'll see runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out in the 5th and no one is playing for one or two runs.  There isn't a bunt, no one is trying to move a runner by going to the right side.  They are playing for the big inning.  It's like Earl Weaver said...pitching and 3 run homers.

maybe three of them will have any kind of careers.

Raul Mondesi got 8 years in prison in the DR.  Pretty crazy.  I was a fan.  Dude had a cannon.

Not to belabor the point on the home run records along with teh strikeouts, but Jay Bruce brought up some interesting points about it.  He said that the shifts, in particular, have led to the growth in both.  The shifts have cost so many pull/power hitters base hits that they decide to just swing for the fence rather than ratcheting down a notch and hitting line drives.  Also, pitcher specialization and that pitchers are throwing harder and harder, leads hitters to swing hard.  He said it's driving up both K's and HRs.

Suarez is their 3B, Schebler's an outfielder.  Both hit below average but have decent power.  Suarez is pretty good defensively.  I think both guys are 2nd or 3rd year guys.

20 homers aren't that impressive this year.  Valbuena for the Halos has hit like 23 and he's batting .198.

Yep.  Suarez was obtained through a trade of Fat Alfredo Simon to the Tigers.  (Simon went back to sucking after that.)  Suarez is a streaky hitter with good skills defensively and a little pop.  The coolest thing as a fan is saying his name.  Eugenio....e-u-hen-e-o

Schebler was part of the Todd Frazier move.  We got Peraza and a pitcher as well.  I loved Frazier so was sorry for this but Schebler has power.  He strikes out too much and hits for a shit average -- not part of the long term plan.
OF should be Duvall in LF, Hamilton in CF, and rookie Jesse Winker (top prospect) in RF.  (Winker has been playing the last month)

They need their pitching not to be the worst in baseball.  Until that point, they will do nothing.

  • The only place I'm going to sit behind a net is behind the plate.

For years there haven't been screens.  Go to the game.  Pay attention.  Mind your kids.  Get off my lawn...

The Rangers getting a new ballpark is insane.  What they currently play in is one of my favorite to watch on TV.  I don't know what the experience is in person or why the hell they would need one, but it looks great on TV.
