For me, it's always been about having someone very special in your life and not to blow it. Otherwise, you'll have nothing because that person was everything.

    Yeah...but my take is that it's an "after the fact" song. Past tense. "Caught a bolt of lightning. Cursed the day he let it go."

    I hear great sadness in Ed's voice which is balanced beautifully with his self-harmonizing in a much higher pitch (Sorry if the terms are not technically correct...)

    For me...One of the most important songs that the band has ever written...

    I think you're spot on - and your username is not lost on me!

    Ironically, my love's past tense (in)directly related to this song brought him into our present tense.
