Time to retire the "new" version of Corduroy?
What do people think? I personally love the original version (no slow down) and think slowing it down kind of kills the mood of the song. But I do understand the appeal of the slow down. If they're going to tour in 2018 (fingers crossed) I'd love to see them bring back the original way of playing it.

I think corduroy is best served when eddie or and stone n mike come together at one point of jamdom. Climax. 3-17-95 is certain to remind me
Hammered.
Needles in my foot.
Love you all0 -
I love the new version. Listen to Greenville 2016. Eddie Says "Live from Greenville its Saturday night. Happy Record Store Day, Were gonna play you some records" He basically announced they would be playing a whole lp.0

Did they ditch the 2014 version of Do the evolution with the singalong breakdown?Or am I remembering that correctly..."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

I'd really like them to bring back the alternative version of Corduroy that they did at the Bridge School Benefit in '96 and a few times since.

Agreed... hate the slowdown on this one0
-
imo one of their greatest songs and the norm should be to never fuck with greatness
having said that i like the new version. when they slow it down in the new version i'm always tempted to keep it going(in my mind&singing)
started off by me not digging that but eventually they won me over with their decision to change it up
=love it. especially love that they took the risk and went with a smart decision to keep it fresh. for them and for us
the sad news is now i don't think it will ever go back to the old version being played. which kinda sucks a tiny little bit lol0 -
I can't listen to those 2016 versions are all.
Think about it: I had to SKIP Corduroy! Awful.0 -
I love the "new" version. I think it's great that they're still trying to change things up at this point in their career. Good stuff.0

I love slowdowns in rocking songs, as long as they aren't too long.
They give you a second to catch your breath and then the remainder carries more impetus. It's also a great opportunity to build a beautiful crescendo, and who the fuck doesn't love that?
Of course, if you get to Zeppelin length, you've gone too far.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
I think they should limit the crowd improvs to one or two per show. Doing that in Not For You now I think. Crazy.
Also miss the spontaneity of Daughter now that the same crowd singalong is done every time. 2003 was a great year for Ed just going in whatever direction he wanted.0 -

Loved it the first time I heard it. Now I want the original back. Too big a point in the song to slow down. The whole crowd is ready to explode and it doesn't happen.0

HAte this version.0

It was a great switch up in Greenville, and I love that the band is constantly working with old songs to make them "new" 20+ years later. That being said, I prefer the original of Corduroy.0

link a vid of what version you consider new please
are you talking abou the sing after me stuff and the slow everything has changed part?Post edited by hrd2imgn on0 -
YES!!!! corduroy should have never been turned into a "singalong" song0
-
Not a fan of the part chosen for the slow down...I like the idea but the slow down happens at the moment the song normally hits its peak...then it just builds up into the chorus. Now, if they tried slowing down during the last verse and then built back up into "Everything has chaiiiinnnnnnsss!!! Absolutely nothings changed!....." then we'd have something.|Montreal 03|Halifax 05|St. John's 1 05|St. John's 2 05|Toronto 1 06|Toronto 2 06|NYC 1 08|NYC 2 08|Toronto 09|Hartford 10|Boston 10|Newark 10|NYC 1 10|NYC 2 10|Alpine Valley 1 11|Alpine Valley 2 11|Montreal 11|Hartford 13|Ottawa 16|Chicago 1 16|Chicago 2 16|Boston 1 18|Quebec City 22|Ottawa 22|Boston 1 24|Boston 2 24|0
