I found one of these babys in a little music store that used to be in Diamond Springs, CA for a very reasonable price (I think I paid like $20 or $25). Not long after, the old tube went out and I replaced it and it's worked like a bull dog ever since. Kind of sounds like an old bull dog, come to think of it. Dirty, funky, get down in the grunge kind of pedal. Lotta fun, this one.
Edit: The Chandler Industries Tube Driver isn't a true "fuzz pedal" but I thought it worth mentioning here. The fuzz pedal I really want is one of the home-made jobs that a guy I knew way back in high school used to make. He even made his only little tin boxes (that doubled as a stash box) to house them in. Loads of fuzz and peculiar in odor. Sure wish I had one or knew where the guy is these days.

I've been revisiting, or maybe rediscovering my guitar pedalboard lately. After much experimentation, I found that the Fulltone O.C.D. into the Homebrew Electronics Ultimate Fuzz Octave into the Dunlop 535Q wah gives me the best range of useful tones. The overdrive tightens up the fuzz a little and the wah sounds great by itself or with any combination of OD and fuzz.
Btw, how's the Scarab working out, OP?

All of their fuzz pedals are amazing!0 -
While not technically a fuzz, the T-Rex Mudhoney is a distortion pedal that gets well into Muff territory. This thing sounds absolutely massive with the gain and tone cranked. There is a little boost switch that gives nice, creamy OD when off. Turning it on unleashes loads of gain that crushes the input stage on my amp.
I'm running mine with my bass rig with a hot rodded P-Bass or one of my custom ESPs. Driving the Mudhoney into a modified SansAmp BDDI is the best bass distortion I have ever heard.
Worth a test drive if you find one in the wild.If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0 -
forgot to add a pic of mine. he custom made it for me by taking a dremel to the case. I did not want powdercoated so he made the swirls into the aluminum casing."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

That looks awesome! I used to have a Martin ABG that had an aluminum top. They did something to it that gave it a similar pattern. I got a lot of questions, comments and compliments on that bass when I played out with it.If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0

I love the idea of the Big Muff but I have sold or traded every version I ever bought.
IME, it doesn't play well with other pedals, completely squashes dynamics and gets really muddy very early in the gain range.
It's probably my technique, since I like what some others can do with it. I've heard them sound glorious. In my control, it is a wall of noise one trick pony.If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0
