I still always think about what Chris said after Achilles Last Stand...something akin to, "If you had told me I was going to play Achilles Last Stand at Madison Square Garden with my best friends, I would've said you're crazy..." glad he got to have that moment.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

to make this a bit easier, here's the recent 8 show tour. Included are a mix of MP3, FLAC and AIFF from Philly 1, Philly 2, MSG, San Francisco 1, San Francisco 2, Los Angeles, Seattle 1 and Seattle 2.

Banger films were initially doing a Soundgarden documentary but not all of the band was happy with it so it was changed into a Chris Cornell film. Last I read the whole project was dropped though.

Anybody have a take on the best quality show here? Of the mp3's, I think it was the SF 2 that sounded the best on my quick listen, but it was still pretty rough. Is one of the other shows or formats significantly better?

Snatch these audience boots up while you can.  With the amount of covers they'll never officially release them unfortunately.

I think Pearl Jam has released shows with covers on them before

That's cute.  Has Pearl Jam ever released a show when 10 were originals and 15 were covers?  Yeah that's a lot of different people to pay royalties for.  Nice snarky comment  though.  Good try!

Easy street is about 50/50 covers originals. They release (almost ) every show they play, so that's more than 15 cover songs played in any given week. It's only an issue if the record company thinks it will be a net loss to release something like that, and in the case of temple, it wouldn't be. If it would then no band would ever record albums solely of cover songs. And joe cocker was pretty successful

Wasn't Easy Street an EP with half the concert on there?  I don't know what Joe Cocker's deal was but that shit started in the 60's/70's, probably a lot has changed with royalties since then.
Look, I ain't got time to argue with you and it looks like we'd both LOVE to have an official release.  Hell I know I would, but you have to admit that it is highly, highly improbable.  I don't know which record companies own what, but you're talking, aside from TOTD, Mad Season and Chris Cornell solo: Mother Love Bone, Harry Niellson (fucked that spelling up probably), Bowie, the Cure, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin etc...  To pay all those record companies seems highly unlikely. I hope I'm wrong though and it comes through but I don't see it.

They are paying the songwriter. I don't know whether it will happen or not, but I just do no think royalty issues will be a significant factor. I hope something comes, cause I missed the tour!

  • Has anyone heard anything new regarding possible official TOTD bootlegs?  I'm with others who think it's highly unlikely we'll get official releases of all the shows, but I've got my fingers crossed nonetheless.  Even a compilation from the various shows would be amazing.  It's just so hard to listen to audience recordings these days - even if they are relatively good quality.  PJ has really spoiled us with the official boots...
