Isn't it so good!?! And not only is Daniel Day-Lewis just spectacular in it, but Paul Dano blows me away too. They are both so awesome in everything they do.

I know it's a smaller thing than Greedo shooting first, Darth Vader moaning like lovelorn moose before giving the Emperor the shaft, and the government agents no longer armed to the teeth against E.T., but the rebranding of this film still pisses me off.

Daniel Day-Lewis is absolutely incredible in everything he does. And I agree about Paul Dano. This film put him on my radar. The dichotomy of their characters is so well-played by both actors. It's one of those cases where you, after seeing the film, you just know that had either character been cast differently the movie probably wouldn't be as effective. I've still yet to see The Ballad of Jack and Rose, which the two played in a couple years prior.
Was sad to hear Day-Lewis announce his retirement from acting yesterday, but at the same time he is leaving behind a remarkable body of work. I'd be hard-pressed to name a better, more dedicated actor of this generation. I read that during the filming of Lincoln, he stayed in character throughout the entire production - even off-set on his own time - just so he could perfect the role.

Lol, well, it doesn't bug me. I prefer the Indiana Jones title... Helps that my last name is Jones perhaps?? I never thought of that before, lol. Ooohhhh, that E.T. thing really pisses me off though!!!! That was the second movie I ever saw in the theatre.

Not sure if they're my top 5, but they're movies I can watch over and over.

1. A Beautiful Life (must be in Italian with English subtitles, not the English version...loses its rhythm and poetry somehow).
2. Shawshank Redemption
3. Dogma
4. Anything with Robin Williams...love the man, may he RIP.
5. This one's old and obscure...The Joy Luck Club. I love dramas that span multiple generations and show different cultures and historical periods.

At Christmastime, the must watch movies are A Christmas Story and It's A Wonderful Life (original black and white version). And sometimes Sound of Music (mostly watching obedient children in awe, lol)

Oh I love The Joy Luck Club. The book was even better. The film though - damn. It's relatable in many ways, plus just so beautiful and well-made.

Years ago, my mom gave me a little clip from Reader's Digest (yes, she still reads it! - large type version now) about Amy Tan, the author. How she was speaking about the book, her mother in the audience, stone-faced. After the speech, Amy asked her if she liked what she read. Her mom said, "All I could do was look at you and say, that's my daughter." I've kept that little piece of paper with me, in my wallet, for more than 25 years.

There is an English version of a Beautiful Life?? What do you mean, like just dubbed over, or an actual different movie with English-speaking actors? edit: now that I think about it, you must mean the latter... I have honestly never seen any movie with English language dubbing before. I know dubbing is more popular for other languages, but I thought it was always just English subtitles and no English dubbing, like just a cultural thing that English speakers don't do.
