How weird that Trump called Robert Costa on the phone to tell him that and have a chat. What the hell?

I don't even understand what that means. When Obama explodes? Where, how, and why would that happen?

I really cannot believe this is going to fail. 7 years, complete power, the best deal maker ever and they can't get it done.

    it boggles the mind
Like, I have recently been thinking, maybe I am wrong, maybe they aren't completely dysfunctional and perhaps they know what they are doing (outside of the WH, obviously), but no, nope, they are a bunch of imbeciles
I don't see how Ryan survives as speaker.
To me, this was such a predictable scenario. Trump and the Republican Party are two entities who have been using each other so long as it was convenient. From a publicity perspective, once again Trump's handled this brilliantly. If this gets passed, he takes credit for repealing ObamaCare ("I have unified the various levels of government and done what I promised"). If it doesn't, he gets to claim plausible deniability in having any say in the creation of the bill, and Ryan falls on his sword. With the clear harm to ACA subscribers, Trump's move to distance himself from the bill was wise. Trump walks away from this unscathed, Ryan walks away from it looking weaker - but what about the Republicans as a Party? BS, I'm certainly not aware of the 'sectarian' (at a lack of a better term) divisions within the Republican Party, but I'm curious to hear your opinion on whether this harms them.

What is sad to me is that Trump has continued to show that perception and image matter much more to him than quality control (he couldn't master steaks or education, so seeing him endorse what he originally described as a "wonderful" health care plan doesn't hugely surprise me). I don't think that impacts his ability to get things done or gains/loses him any power, but I do feel that it's a net loss for the country.

    Here's the thing.

When Obama wanted his health care plan passed, he spent a full year traveling around the country and making a case to voters. He could tell Joe Bob in Iowa, "I understand you're having a problem with XYZ. Here's how my plan would seek to address that."

He did that for a full year.

This president does not seem as invested in this health care bill, except for we just get it over with so we can move on. He's forcing them to ram-rod it through, and doesn't seem interested in what has to happen, policy-wise, to get that done. I doubt he even knows what's in it, policy-wise.

All we've heard from Trump on this is "Obamacare is a disaster" -- OK, well, tell us how? What are the problems with it, as you see it? Who is it a problem for? Lay it out.

And "This plan is going to be great" -- again, tell us how? What issues that you had with Obamacare does your bill address? If you see it's going to make my medical care better, tell me how.

Trump has done none of that, and that's partly what's killing the bill, or at least making it politically untenable. The public hates this bill. Nobody buying it, because nobody is out there selling it. Trump might be a fine negotiator behind the closed doors of the boardroom, but a huge part of being president is making a sales pitch to a skeptical public. He doesn't seem to know how to do that.

Will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Trump supporters have so far believed everything he had to say, so if he says it's the Democrats' fault, they might believe him.

Or he could just blame Paul Ryan or the Freedom Caucus for not even being able to get a bill to his desk. If you're Team Trump, I suspect you'll buy that.

I agree completely..But they need to make a big presser out of it. They should have done it before, even if it gets killed in committee. Put it on record and run on it.

Yes. Such a bill would also go down in flames but for optics I think this would be a good idea. I don't think anyone believes the ACA is a perfect program functioning smoothly. So show you're willing to work on it.
