    Yea. My fundamental disagreement with the way Obama ran the country had absolutely nothing to do with his race. I don't hate him I just disagree. I was never against him, he was my president of for 8 years and I had hoped that he would do XYZ. But that didn't happen.
    I think he would be much better suited to work the toll booth on a bridge somewhere, and would probably be handing out the wrong change all the time. But I never hated the guy and my disregard for him had nothing to do with race. I ment to make my own comment not attached to any ones.

    Well since my response was a reply to your comment where you brought up Bush. Bush has been out of office 8 years. If he's relevant to this conversation, wouldn't someone who less than 4 months ago was expected to be president be a lot more relevant?

    So was Obama before he was for it. Sometimes you have to wait for the general public to accept something that to them has become okay or acceptable. Look at marijuana laws. Trump's AG is opposed but overwhelming majorities of the American public are for legalization. And in 10-15 years, pot will be legal and the feds will have dropped it.

    Totally agree. I was just pointing out that criticizing a former president's stance who took office 16 years ago and calling him a "goofball" for it seems a little ironic when the person who most here wanted to be president had the same stance just a couple years ago.
    Which actually made me laugh harder when it is apparently okay and relevant to bring up someone who took office in 2001, but the 2016 presidential candidate, who had the same stance, is totally and completely irrelevant to this topic.

    it's a simple kneejerk reaction to all the "but, but, hillary..." bullshit when someone insults Trump. most of the time it's warranted, but you're right, the door was opened for you to walk through on this one.

    The Feb. 16 lunch menu at Hopewell Valley Central High School also listed corn bread, sweet potato casserole, sauteed spinach, mac & cheese and peach and apple crisps.

    It's not clear who complained about the menu.

    "The decision to include these items without any context or explanation, reinforces racial stereotypes and is not consistent with our district mission and efforts to improve cultural competency among our students and staff," Superintendent Thomas A. Smith wrote in a message to the high school community.

    Smith wrote that district's food service vendor, Pomptonian, had apologized to the district and they are meeting with the company "to reinforce our district values."

    Smith could not be reached for comment Monday. Schools were closed.

    Pomptonian Vice President Cathy Penna said one of their directors - based at the school - worked closely with the high school on creating a menu event to celebrate Black History Month.

    "The suggestion was to do something to celebrate soul food," Penna said in an email. The company tries to offer a diverse menu respecting different cultures, she wrote.

    "Pomptonian deeply regrets that, out of context, this menu may have been perceived by individuals as insensitive or in poor taste," Penna said. "The director at this location never intended to do anything that would offend anyone and deeply regrets the decision and understands that it could have been taken out of context."

    The family-owned company, based in Fairfield and in business over 50 years, says they provide meals to more than 350 schools across the state.

    The high school has about 1,200 students, of which 82 percent are white, 10 percent Asian, 3.8 percent black and 3.6 percent Hispanic, records show.

    So why would anyone try to celebrate black history month with cafeteria menu items. Seems really awkward. Just asking for trouble with this one. Maybe some research and to prepare authentic African cuisine may have been better... but still this is pretty dumb.
    Schools have all kinds of international day events where that cultural group's food is served. Is serving fried chicken for black history month any different than serving chow mein for Chinese New Year or whatever? Tacos on Cinco de Mayo? Now the question is, what is different from that when it comes to African Americans and (boring) soul food, if anything? If anything, I would say it's because African Americans have "traditionally" often eaten such a menu for a long time in America because that is the kind of meals they managed to pull together while living on slave row. I can see how that leads to it being inappropriate to serve such a menu to celebrate black history month. I guess. The thing is, that kind of menu is still enjoyed by African Americans as a kind of tradition or down-home meal as far as I can tell. So given that, is the history of slavery that is necessarily tied to the cuisine automatically offensive as a "stereotype"? Geez, I don't even know whether or not everything I just typed is offensive to someone. :worried:

    When we were in Memphis in 2014 to see PJ we went to Gus's fried chicken... holy shit that was life changing... it was like I was having fried chicken for the first time and haven't had anything even close since
