I don't think you are a fringe member, but for weeks prior to the election all we hear from the media is "Will Donald respect the election", "Will Trump supporters turn to violence if he loses", etc.... when the issue is real for both parties. So if you progressives are trying to figure out why non-progressives didn't vote for Hillary, you need to understand that the one-sided news media is a huge turnoff to a lot of the population because it talks down to them when they know the progressives do the same thing. They turn the channel or just get more frustrated. We need the media to report both sides. For example, the media refers to Trump supporters as racists, but I do not recall any MSM that reports what the cost to the country is for illegal immigration, how that cost could instead be used for poor citizens of this country (i.e., fix the problem in the US and then help others) or report any reason at all why Trump supporters might want strong borders other than labeling them as racist. No one calls the person on the plane who puts his/her oxygen mask on first before assisting others hateful, self-centered, etc.... They want both people to survive, but at the end of the day there is disagreement on how to do it that isn't from a place of hate or bigotry (except for the fringe).OffSheGoes35 said:

My take is the in the primary, the media paved the path for him with over indulging in the circus. Itwas interesting watching the gradual progression as they realized they stepped in it and had to play it straight when he got the nom. And speaking of immigrants, are people aware that the actual "problem" has always been happening? And that trump manipulated millions by getting them to think this is an important campaign issue. It's the typical republican trick to create an enemy every election in order to manipulate the fearful base. I mean, if they didn't things are getting worse, what would they do?bootlegger10 said:

You mention that the immigration "problem" has always been happening. Well, that is a prime example of why people went with the perceived change candidate, Trump. I doubt that 20% of those who voted for him actually liked his rhetoric, but they were glad someone finally said something about what they think is a problem.Go Beavers said:

And how did they come to "think" it was a problem? They were told it was a problem, and the fearful grasped on to it. Conservatives live in a fear driven world, and they need something to feed this. This election it was immigrants. Hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this illegal immigration thing is deserving of this attention and needs the several hundred of billions trump wants to throw at it, along with an expanded government. Maybe someone has actually gathered facts about this problem. Like how many billions illegals cost, vs. how many billion of $ they contribute. Crime rate of illegals vs. us wholesome white folks? Does anyone have that link?bootlegger10 said:
