...on polls.
Have YOU ever been called by any organization conducting a poll? If yes, please list organization running the poll, what they were polling, choices and your choice, if you don't mind. Thanks for your contribution.
Specifically, if you have been called about your leaning in a political poll, especially PRESIDENTIAL, please specify.

Yes, I have.I have by neilsen several times. Another was on a state level asking about perception of issues and candidates. I don't remember who was running that one. What's your reason for polling about polls?0
-
No, I have never been called.I have heard that once you are in the system of being called, it becomes a regular thing, that you get called repetitively. So that skews results for sure. Neilson, tv network ratings, not surprised. But calling you several times, doesn't really get a good idea of the mass audience of television watchers as a whole.0

once or twice, I always ask how they got my number then tell them not to call anymore.....must be working.

Yes, I have.My understanding with neilsen tv viewer numbers is that there's households that have all of their tv viewing monitored with something attached to the cable input.0

No, I have never been called.Thought I did once but it turned out to be some sales gimmick. Although I guess you could say elections are kind of a sales gimmick as well."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

Yes, I have.I get several calls per election cycle from obscure conservative consulting groups doing "messaging" polls. For example, if Candidate X says Y, would you be more or less likely to vote for him? I just got one tonight (how timely), asking me, after revealing my pick, if I have grown more likely or less likely to vote for Hillary in the past week (more). Why? (Because I'm fed up by the personal attacks on her and I will enjoy watching the loser squirm when she wins.) I was then asked how concerned I am about her physical health (not at all) and if I cared more about a candidate who emphasizes the economy or anti-terrorism (the economy).
I find these messaging polls to be the most cynical of all, and I usually give the pollster shit with feedback like, "What the hell kind of question is that?" They inevitably get flustered by my responses and probably record my answers incorrectly. I have no idea how I got on a Republican messaging list, except I'm a white female in a suburban swing district, so they're probably using the voter rolls. They seem to be desperate about saying the right thing to win my vote. They never say they're sponsored by Republican candidates, but I can tell from the slant of the questions that they're connected somehow.
The Democrats call me to volunteer. Last Sunday I registered voters. Next week I'm canvassing. Every two weeks or so, they call to remind us to vote. It's how Obama won VA both times, and it will be how Clinton wins it as well.
The phone calls make me happy. Confused conservatives, diligent Democrats. We got it going on right up in these parts.0 -
No, I have never been called.I've never been called but if I was ever called I would probably abruptly hang up. I have very little patience for those calls or anyone selling me something.

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487Yes, I have. When I had a landline the Dems tried to get me to do something in 2007. I told them I was no longer a dem.
Since I cancelled my landline I have not received a call.0 -
No, I have never been called.I will honestly be surprised if anyone here actually says, "Yes, I have been polled regarding which person I will vote for for president". I would participate ins such a poll!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

No, I have never been called.Of those who responded, were these calls SURVEYS or actual POLLS?0

No, I have never been called.Has anyone been called to participate in a Presidential POLL, (not a survey or local canvas calls by political parties) ??0
-
Yes, I have.I have indeed been called by a polling firm in regard to political leanings. But remember that the membership of this forum is not restricted to Americans. I have been polled in our Canadian federal election, and I think also in a provincial election.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0

Not in my case. They just send me diaries to fill out... When I send them back they send me a $10 bill. Then I buy beer with it.Go Beavers said:My understanding with neilsen tv viewer numbers is that there's households that have all of their tv viewing monitored with something attached to the cable input.

Yes, I have.
So you're saying we can blame you when stupid shows go on for years and good ones get cancelled?Gern Blansten said:

No! I don't watch any network TV except survivor. They have me fill out what I record on dvr and indicate if I watch it or not... I usually don't. Love that $10 though.Go Beavers said:

Yes, I have.
That would make sense, because the networks use the data to determine how much to charge for advertising. You got me all curious, so I was looking at the wiki page.Gern Blansten said:My understanding is that they don't give a shit about pay TV like HBO... Strictly network stuff.

No, I have never been called.TV, LOL.
We have one of those analog converter boxes and an old Panasonic cathode ray tube (CRT) TV. It cost about $129 bucks, still works fine after 10 years. On a good day we get two or three channels off the antenna on the roof. But the set is hooked up through an amp with DVD, VCR and stereo speakers so watching PJ or Dinosaur or Neil videos--- happy happy happy!
I get all my news from the internet so if anybody is surveying me, it's being done when I'm on-line.
Say what? Oh, hi surveyors. How's it going? What, it's a boring job? Yeah, I can dig that."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
I like some TV.
(and no, I will not LOL over that...I'm not an LOL'er!)
Have never been asked to participate in a poll, but if I were, it'd be a blast to give the pollsters utterly fucked up nonsensical responses.0
