    There's several predictions that global population will start to decrease about 40-80 years from now. Most westernized countries have a birth rate in the negative, so we rely on immigrants to fill the needs of our consumer oriented economy. As standards of living increase around the globe, it will become more expensive to raise kids, and therefore we'll have fewer. In the meantime I recommend eating less meat, buy local, and get rid of your car (or drive less).

    I think disease might do it first, what with the superbugs and whatnot, but if not, then I hope this prediction comes true. Of course, this scenario will only happen if things keep going along the same way they are now. Throw in a third world war or a massive global collapse in the economy or something, and this theory becomes moot.
