You can reduce carbon emissions by either reducing your carbon emissions per person, or by reducing the number of persons on the planet (or produce less of them). It's cold and calculated, but mathematically how can you say this is untrue?unsung said:'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

I'm for doing all of these:
Reduce population
Everyone reduce their energy consumption
Increase use of cleaner alternatives
It's not just as simple as ONE solution."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

We can't get people to see ten minutes into the future to prepare and save for it. Instead it's an instant gratification society, so how do you propose they stop breeding?0 -
The highly intelligent people might understand the need to curb mating, but the morons are going to hump away and spit out more morons.unsung said:Yes seriously.

In effect, we'll be dummying down society.
It sounds stupid and I say it tongue in cheek, but there's an element of truth here."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

It's already happening, hello republican nominee Trump!0 -
Fundie morons forget multiplying is in the bible because there weren't that many people on the planet back then.0

Yes, yes and yes.
unsung, you asked, "how do you propose they stop breeding?", Before you ask that I would ask the question, "How do we want to see human population fall off?" By our own will or by the laws of ecology? Because it will fall off, of that there is no doubt.
Me, I suspect the latter is most likely. As a species, we obviously haven't learned to understand and live within the laws of nature, the laws of ecology: diversity of species, interdependence of species, and limits to resources. Easy as 1-2-3. We have at least neared- or more likely reached- carrying capacity and nature is up to bat.
But that's no excuse to not try to use our will, time, money, energy to learn about and live within those laws. And how do we do that? Education, dissemination of information, putting into practice what we know.
Or bludgeon everyone to death. We're good at that, eh? Not my choice, that's for sure.
What else?
Oh yeah, these little machines can spread a lot of information and influence all over the place and quick! We are doing it.

I agree. Let's do that, end civilization. All that would be left are the weak.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:

Thankfully smart people realize that in order to ensure the future of mankind we must procreate. We just prefer to bring children into a world where they aren't riddled with debt in second they open their eyes.0 -
uhhh ... how are they wack jobs!?? ... what in the piece is problematic or false?0

Well we could start with not defunding Planned Parenthood, which helps women with sex education and contraception. We could stop trying to take sex education out of schools as well. Because the states doing this just happen to have the highest teen birth rates in the country. Top 5 states with the highest teen pregnancy rates:unsung said:So how do we reduce population?

Some bacterial or viral outbreak will likely do it for us. But if not, on an international level, reducing the birth rate is the only way, and that is done through education and female empowerment (both of which would necessarily improve economies and standards of living, which is also needed), birth control.unsung said:So how do we reduce population?

As for developed nations... I totally agree with the small-family concept. One or two kids is plenty. It's more and more expensive to properly raise kids every year anyhow. Most people can't afford more than two, if that. I personally can't afford any where I live, and I'm fine not contributing to the population.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
