I have no doubt at all that the Clinton Foundation did indeed have many conflicts of interest. Anyone who assumes otherwise is probably pretty naive. I mean, honestly, this kind of think is how it goes in Washington. If there weren't conflicts of interest, then I'd be shocked. I would like to see a much more thorough explanation from the justice department about how they are justifying not letting this investigation go ahead (besides the one we all suspect - that it will 1) fuck up the election even more, and 2) open a big ass can of worms with far reaching consequences for loads of various politicians and friends.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487Did Cheney not get blasted on these very forums for his Iraq to Halliburton ties? Did everyone just give up?
This election needs to be fucked up more. Why every four years are we dealt with two people that pretty much nobody likes?

Well I actually wouldn't put the Cheney/Iraq/Halliburton thing into the same ballpark as the Clinton/Clinton Foundation thing, and it's not because I hate Cheney more than Clinton (though I do). One is a way WAY bigger deal than the other, and I hope you know which one I'm talking about, lol. Yes, of course no one wants politicians to be corrupt, but usually they are, and there are degrees of corruption so that one instance is going to infuriate people more than another instance. When 9/11 was still relatively fresh and the whole Iraq war thing with all the death and billions upon billions of tax dollars involved, of course people are going to be more angry about the Halliburton business than when there is some shady funding for a charity and a suspicious decision from the justice department.
As for giving up.... well.... I think a lot of people might more just be temporarily resigned to the inevitable right now, which, however depressing, is actually pretty logical given the situation. The US is not currently victim to a normal situation to say the least. This election is like a fucking freak show with no exit. Seems like the only thing to do is hope that Trump doesn't win and then look to 2020. People do seem mad I think, but uselessly so.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
A very bright, nice, interesting young man, at most in his late teens, was asking me about our philosophy book section today. He gave me a basic rundown of about 5 major philosophers in 10 minutes flat and floored me with his knowledge. He especially talked about Hobbes Leviathan. I haven't read it... yet! ... but I get a sense from what this kid says it might make good required reading for anyone even thinking about running for president.unsung said:Did Cheney not get blasted on these very forums for his Iraq to Halliburton ties? That's an excellent point. Some people put party before country and others put their king/queen before countryunsung said:Did Cheney not get blasted on these very forums for his Iraq to Halliburton ties? Did everyone just give up?

It wasn't a good point at all if that is your takeaway. But unsung didn't actually even mention what you are suggesting.tonifig8 said:

I don't know if you would like his work, there's a book called Democracy: The God that Failed, probably doesn't fit the curriculum here.brianlux said:
