Used to only get ones I attended and told myself I would only ever have posters from nights I attended... Then I broke down and bought the Sperry from this year which opened the door to many other purchases. So the search for many more I have liked in the past is underway. Should have bought them when they were cheap, but oh well. Buy what you like!

I have bought a few I liked that I didn't go to over the years. Bunch of mystery poster sales too.

I have a very good friend who purchases posters of shows he hasn't been to, but only if he really, really loves them.

For me? I will only buy posters for shows that I have been to and am willing to hang on my wall. No skulls, please.

I buy any poster that I like the art work for and rotate ones in and out of rotation. I only do big framing jobs for shows I attend but out other ones in home goods frames. I have a guitar room/studio and like the way they look.

I rarely buy posters either way, but when I do, I only buy them because I really, really love them and want them on my wall. Whether or not I went to the show is irrelevant. It's nice if I really love the poster for a show I was at, but that's never happened to me. I did get a Wrigley poster (Emek) but only because someone else was willing to grab me one and I figured I'd be mad at myself for not having at least one souvenir from that trip.... In retrospect, I could have done without that poster.

I actively dislike the posters for most of the shows I've been to.
I've got a few for shows I didn't attend because the posters are flippin awesome.
The only time I bought a poster I didn't actually like for a show I went to was when it dropped to $15 in the shop, and the show itself was significant to me.

Art is subjective, and anyone who wants to try to tell me how I'm allowed to spend my own money is going to get laughed at.

I had to get Philadelphia 2 poster even though I couldn't attend show. It's very beautiful and unique. I appreciate artistry in some of these posters

I had to buy the Bonnaroo poster. Was the first time I specifically bought a poster for a show that I didn't attend (not counting posters from the mystery box/mystery poster sales).

I really like the Roo poster. I didn't buy it simply because I have too many unframed already without adding a non-attended show, but I love the simplicity and wholesomeness of it. It's just hanging out in nature and music. Nothing could be better. I would have liked to show up at roo just for the poster. I really liked the Jazz Fest one too.
  • For the most part I now limit myself to shows I actually attend with a few exceptions: Posters that end up making a set (Cali 'Holy Trinity' 2000) and stunning pieces of art. For me there are 3 that stand out in that category: Pittsburgh '13, Charlotte '96 and EMEK's Ben Harper poster for Sasquatch Music Festival '06.

But art is art...if you love it...buy it and then hang it...

I don't get to go to a bunch of shows, so of course I get posters for shows I didn't attend... Or I would only have like 5 posters.

This... that's my problem. I have a third floor that is all framed posters. These days, I use the same frame structures so I can just rotate them. I have far more framed posters than wall space.. first world problems.
