My 3rd and final NYC story...A sad story

JTH and I wake up Monday morning at 6am. As much as we would have loved to stay for both shows, life just wouldn't allow it. JTH needed to get back home to his lovely bride Erin, and their 3 children. I needed to get back home to my lovely bride Kathy, and back to work Monday night. We wake up at 6am., after about 4 hours sleep, and I actually feel pretty damned good, considering. But we both stayed sober on Sunday, so 4 hours of sleep was enough. Soon enough I would be back at home, in Chicago, where I could take a nice 5 hour nap before heading to work.
We arrive at the airport 2 hours before the flight takes off, and I am ok with that. We find a nice little bagel shop, where we sit at the counter, drink some coffee, enjoy a bagel, and continue to giggle about the "Jeremy Guy". After 2-3 cups of coffee and some good banter, it is time to head to the plane. This is where the story gets sad.

On the way to the plane I decide to use the restroom. 3-4 cups of coffee and a bagel later, a restroom is what I need. Well that goes well, and off I go. I check in, I take my seat on the plane, and 15 seconds later I realize I left my cell phone in the restroom. A frantic dash through people boarding the plane, and a few OJ Simpson moves through the airport, I am back in the restroom.

My phone is of course gone.

I have no more pictures of my trip to NYC.
I have lost all my contacts.
It is all gone in an instant.

I now have my new phone with the same number.
So please, my friends, if you have my number please send me a text, and tell me who you are. And PLEASE don't fuck with me and tell me "This is Eddie Vedder". I am truly sad right now. All my pics and everything else from NYC is gone. I need everyones number again.

And everyone else. Please contact me today or tomorrow, send me a text and let me know who you are. I need to update all my contacts. As I type this out I still cant believe I have nothing!

    That sucks I hope you get all your contacts back isn't it a shame that we are so dependent on a cell phone ..I don't even have a landline phone at home ...

    I have no idea what my gmail account was. Hell, I have NO IDEA what a gmail account is! I guess with that, Verizon could have easily restored all my info.

    But as of right now.
    I have nothing.
    And I am truly sad.

    That blows. Tips for future: set your phone to automatically back up contacts and all photos to the Cloud, and register with the Soluto find my phone service/app or something similar (this allows you to track your phone to within 12 feet of where it is).

    Crap. That sucks. Let's hope it was gone from bathroom bc someone turned it in. Contact the airport and see if they recovered a cell and maybe you'll get lucky. There are a few nice folks in NYC (actually most of us are). I know if I saw it I would not have left it there thinking you'd be back. I'd have found the proper lost and found. Good luck. And at least you have the memories.

    You can recover your gmail account. Just go to the website and go through the "forgot log in" motions. Depending on your settings, you might have those photos backed up to Picasa. Theres several services that auto back up your photos, Dropbox, Amazon Photos, etc. Also, depending on your settings you might have your contacts saved in gmail as "Google contacts" so go recover your username/password.

    And call the airport lost and found. You might be in luck.

    Sorry to hear that Speedy. My daughter's cell phone was stolen from a public washroom once when she put it down to wash her hands. We tracked it but couldn't actually locate who had it in a big crowd at a museum, which was really frustrating. She hadn't backed it up, either, and was heartbroken at the loss of hundreds of photos, so I feel your pain. Fingers crossed someone actually did hand it in.

    I left my phone in a rest area bathroom coming back from Lexington caught it miles down the road and made a mad dash across the highway to turn around and pushed the needle of my car to its limits and got there just in time for the "attendant" to lock up and he had my phone put in lost and found if I would have been 5 mins later I would had to have drive back to get it the next day or when I had time. I would have lost contacts and memories myself

    I figured as much but I feel so badly for you. I had a very close call with my phone in Philly 1. Sat down in our seats. Reached for my phone to take a pre show pic of the stage from my seat. Phone gone. Panic. We retraced our steps, went to security. Nothing. Got back to our seats. We search one more time under the seat as my brother is calling it. There it is wedged in the seat. It wasn't visible at all until the screen lit up when it was ringing. Relieved to say the least. So sorry your story ended differently.

    Oh man, really sorry to see this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed someone did turn it in. I get it, some stuff is replaceable but other things you can never get back again. Hopefully you can make bits and pieces out of what others have to share.
