Brian, I wondered if you and I would be the only ones to notice. I'm a bigger fan of Hot Tuna but Jefferson Airplane had a big role in my teenage years. Surrealistic Pillow, Volunteers, Crown of Creation--great music.

    RIP Paul.

I have to say I'm feeling old here. Kantner was a musician well known among my peers, especially having grown up in the bay area. But I can understand him not being as well known in the bigger picture. "Surrealistic Pillow" was an early favorite for me and Kantner was a big part of that great group. Sadly (and surprisingly), I never saw him/them play.

I never saw them either. I'm happy that I have seen Hot Tuna and that Jorma Kaukonen singing Good Shepherd is something I'll never forget.

Here's an awesome tribute to Kantner that Jorma posted on his website: http://jormakaukonen.com/cracksinthefinish/?p=5324

That's a wonderful tribute. Thanks for putting it up, Who Princess.

  • Yeah. Another sad passing. Was listening to XM after Bowie and Frey news so close - Jim Ladd I think who said this is going to start becoming a common news item as the first gen of Rock is aging (and those 2 weren't all that old).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

What the hell is going on lately with all these music deaths.

It's a bit strange being in the mid-lower end of that age group (born in '51) and seeing all these great talents moving on and chasing their heels. The music lives on thanks to well recorded music. For that alone I wouldn't want to live in any other time.

Singe Anderson passed away the same day.
Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall after a very restful summer exploring the Great Canadian Wilderness and beaches, listening to Pearl Jam, Headstones, Watchmen, Queens of the Stone Age, and many others.

In my absence, please refer to the following for any reasoned debate on any given matter (please note this list is not exhaustive):

Oh man, I hadn't seen that. She was the original singer before Grace Slick and had left the group after becoming pregnant. This is sad and the timing bizarre.

    R.I.P. SInge Anderson.

Mr. Grim Reaper, will you please give musicians a f*cking break here for a while?

You sound like me & my friends: and Keith Richards still lives>LOL>Man has more lives then a cat>LOL>LUCKY us though.

I know were getting older and we die, but to have all of these Iconic musicians pass so close together, is so sad. But, there music will live on forever.
