that's quite a lot from one gig, which really impresses me on the whole offsetting for carbon mitigation thing. Thoughts?


I know it's gross sales not profit but that is still a lot of money

    It's a large figure, for sure. But I suspect their profit margin might not be that high.

    Was there an opening band for that show? If not thats even more of a cut that they take home

    I know Frank Black said that PJ paid him extremely well to open those shows in 98

    No clue how much that translates to NET profit but whatever the amount, they deserve it. To be able to have a positive impact on millions and millions and millions of people's lives is truly priceless.

    Well, these figures show what the gig itself earned, not the band....

    That said, looking at the Boxscore stats is sort of interesting, just to see/compare what various groups are charging and what size venues they are playing.

    I thought so too but the lack of info about how the figures are compiled bugged me.

    According to this article (from 2011 though) the artists actually take a pretty huge chuck of ticket sales. Average of 74% (for them and all their crew, travel, etc). Still very decent profit margins for big acts. Say if they spend much of that profit on their performance and crew, they're still each making a hell of a lot for one show.

    its my understanding the bands take the lions share of the money as it is usually guaranteed for bands like this. in 1984 i saw springsteens contract for buffalo. the promoter made his money from the ticket surcharge on 16000 tickets which was 1.50 at the time. his profit per show was 25000. bruce took over 250,000.00. tickets were 16.00
