Stop it? There's a huge contingency of people who don't even want to confront it. The US has a serious issue with gun violence and nobody seems truly care. There will be lots of discussion about gun violence and finally a push to profile the shooter so people can distance themselves from them and deny culpability. If they're Muslim they become terrorists; if they're Christian they become 'lone gunmen' separate from the rest of society.
