If you care about sports, then you’re no doubt aware that the Chicago Cubs won a playoff series against the St. Louis Cardinals last night, putting them a step closer to playing their first World Series since 1908.
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who is apparently a huge Cubs fan, was there to cheer his favorite team on for the second time in recent weeks (last week he was in the locker room when the team beat Pittsburgh in a Wild Card game). Last night though, an amped Vedder got on camera for an interview with CBS on Wrigley Field. Watch it below.
Vedder is currently at something of a crossroads concerning his favorite baseball team: If the Cubs do make the Series, Yahoo Sports points out that Vedder will have to miss the games because Pearl Jam is scheduled to tour South America later this month. “It’s been a surprise,” he told Fox Sports Midwest. “We’re touring and I have to leave before the World Series. All I’m saying is that the next few years we’re not going to play in October… This year I didn’t think we had to worry about it. But I hope we go to the World Series and I hope I miss the games. It’d be a good problem to have.”
Finally, get a load of this picture of fellow Cubs fan Billy Corgan, who doesn’t look particularly jazzed about his newfound “boyz” status with radio host Brent Dougherty.

I thought his interview after the game talking about thinking about the people who aren't around who wanted this for so long... that was really touching. You could tell he was moved. I'm not even a sports fan but it's cool to see the Cubs making it this far after so long.
New Mexico Pearl Jam Fans (New Mexico, USA) on Facebook!
It never ceases to blow me the fck away how somebody as big as EV is on a world scale after 25 years is as humble ,compassionate, grounded and just simply come across as a genuine human being that first thought is that of other human beings, passed and present.I guess that's why most of us on this site are on this site,it's beyond the best music on this rock,it's the magnet of truly professional musicians that give us faith as the little people we are one with the biggest of people
What an investment being a PJ fan has been for me ,greatest inspiration I have in my life, the you Ed

Good for the Cubs and their fans...I, being a White Sox fan married to a Cubs fans, am happy for them. Also, being in the booze business like to see people in Chicagoland in bars. Win, win.

With that said, I do think it is really silly to be popping champagne after winning the Division Series. I'm a big sports fan, I have said the same thing for my Boston teams, so I'm not just harping on the Cubs. But I just think it is better to be more stoic until your mission is actually complete. That way if you end up losing, you don't look like an idiot. And if you win the whole damn thing, the celebration will be that much sweeter.
This reminds me of a baseball coach I had in high school. A dude on our team hits a home run, the bench starts freaking out, and our coach tells us to sit down and be quiet---he said "act like you've seen a home run before". Now this works as good strategy in two ways: it taught our team to not settle and keep hitting home runs and it showed the other teams that this is just how we roll.

And Eddie did an interview for ESPN 1000 here explaining that he needed to be in South America at the end of October for rehearsals and the such with the band. Obviously they will be playing a much more in depth set list than they did in NYC so I'm sure he has work to do with the band before going live. He joked about "winging it" but I'm guessing he has a routine he wanted to stick with.
