If you care about sports, then you’re no doubt aware that the Chicago Cubs won a playoff series against the St. Louis Cardinals last night, putting them a step closer to playing their first World Series since 1908.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who is apparently a huge Cubs fan, was there to cheer his favorite team on for the second time in recent weeks (last week he was in the locker room when the team beat Pittsburgh in a Wild Card game). Last night though, an amped Vedder got on camera for an interview with CBS on Wrigley Field. Watch it below.

Vedder is currently at something of a crossroads concerning his favorite baseball team: If the Cubs do make the Series, Yahoo Sports points out that Vedder will have to miss the games because Pearl Jam is scheduled to tour South America later this month. “It’s been a surprise,” he told Fox Sports Midwest. “We’re touring and I have to leave before the World Series. All I’m saying is that the next few years we’re not going to play in October… This year I didn’t think we had to worry about it. But I hope we go to the World Series and I hope I miss the games. It’d be a good problem to have.”

Finally, get a load of this picture of fellow Cubs fan Billy Corgan, who doesn’t look particularly jazzed about his newfound “boyz” status with radio host Brent Dougherty.

I don't get why Ed talked about how the tour is happening... unless there is ONE secret date for 10/22 for PJ25?? The tour starts 11/4, which is game 7 of the series. Since Bono can fly across the world to make it to Global Citizen, I'm sure Eddie could figure out some way to go to the world series and then make it to wherever the tour starts 11/4. Now it would suck IF the Cubs made it to the world series, and IF it tied after game 6, and game 7 was the same night as the opening of the tour... but those are a lot of big ifs, and for all you know the Cubs will make it and win after game 4. ;) Eddie can still be a part of it!!

I thought his interview after the game talking about thinking about the people who aren't around who wanted this for so long... that was really touching. You could tell he was moved. I'm not even a sports fan but it's cool to see the Cubs making it this far after so long.

Yea I didnt look into the schedule of both the series and tour but I was thinking his private jet could get him where ever he needs to be. Its not like he cant rest properly and still give a solid performance.

    Thanks for posting that Demetrios
It never ceases to blow me the fck away how somebody as big as EV is on a world scale after 25 years is as humble ,compassionate, grounded and just simply come across as a genuine human being that first thought is that of other human beings, passed and present.I guess that's why most of us on this site are on this site,it's beyond the best music on this rock,it's the magnet of truly professional musicians that give us faith as the little people we are one with the biggest of people
What an investment being a PJ fan has been for me ,greatest inspiration I have in my life, the you Ed

  • I like how he was wearing a Casamigos T Shirt. I wonder if he pals around with George Clooney and Randy Gerber, since it's it their brand and they give out cases to all their friends???

Good for the Cubs and their fans...I, being a White Sox fan married to a Cubs fans, am happy for them. Also, being in the booze business like to see people in Chicagoland in bars. Win, win.

I don't know how many Barstool fans are on this board. But the barstool Chicago guy, Bigcat (Dan) had a pic of he and Ed on twitter today. He said today (on the barstool rundown) that if the Cubs win the world series, he has a video that all PJ fans will appreciate (pretty much Ed playing a bunch of acoustic songs at a house party they were all at). He did say that Ed smelled like a homeless guy but he's a big PJ fan, haha.
  • If they go all the way can he jet back and forth from SA tour?

Go Cubs!!! Great video! So good!!!

I'm from the Boston area and I met Theo Epstein at Ed's 2008 solo gig in Boston at the Opera House (night 2). I got a chance to talk to Theo ever-so-briefly and he does come across as a really nice, genuinely good guy. Combine that with the fact that he helped the Red Sox finally get a World Series victory (actually two---2004 and 2007) and it's really hard not to be happy for the Cubs. Also, Ed, over the years, has been super gracious about giving the Red Sox a ton of support while playing Boston shows.

With that said, I do think it is really silly to be popping champagne after winning the Division Series. I'm a big sports fan, I have said the same thing for my Boston teams, so I'm not just harping on the Cubs. But I just think it is better to be more stoic until your mission is actually complete. That way if you end up losing, you don't look like an idiot. And if you win the whole damn thing, the celebration will be that much sweeter.

This reminds me of a baseball coach I had in high school. A dude on our team hits a home run, the bench starts freaking out, and our coach tells us to sit down and be quiet---he said "act like you've seen a home run before". Now this works as good strategy in two ways: it taught our team to not settle and keep hitting home runs and it showed the other teams that this is just how we roll.

Thanks for clearing that out!, for a moment I was worried this Cubs thing (sorry not a fan of the game) might ruin the SA tour! :relieved:

Joe Maddon has a 30 minute rule for the Cubs - enjoy or sulk for 30 minutes then move on. He also loves to say: "don't let the pressure exceed the pleasure." This is still sports. The Cubs celebration may have lasted longer than 30 minutes, but it's a team that stays loose and has fun. And remember the 2004 Red Sox referred to themselves as "idiots" for a reason. You'd probably be in horror to hear how they "celebrated" with shots even before games to loosen up a little bit. And every team celebrates throughout each stage from making the playoffs to each series win, so I guess you think the Pirates, Cardinals, Yankees, Astros, Blue Jays, and Cubs all look like idiots in your mind this year? I can guarantee you celebrating after the Division Series would have had not made celebrating a NLCS or World Series Title for the Cubs any less sweet. It's still a game and success and having fun don't have to be mutually exclusive.

And Eddie did an interview for ESPN 1000 here explaining that he needed to be in South America at the end of October for rehearsals and the such with the band. Obviously they will be playing a much more in depth set list than they did in NYC so I'm sure he has work to do with the band before going live. He joked about "winging it" but I'm guessing he has a routine he wanted to stick with.
