    And the other seven brought a device that resembled a device that might have looked lik a bomb, a clock, one of which was an inert bomb. Why the differing in treatment? All seven applauded, one teacher suspended and Mohamed arrested. Why? He explained it was a clock and not a bomb. I haven't seen pictures of what the other seven looked like but Mohamed explained that it was a clock. Why was he arrested?

    My knee jerk reaction was to denounce the teachers and cops. But now will see what else comes out from this story before passing judgement.

    Think will be answered somewhat if his invitation to WH is revoked.

    True that would certainly would be a safety concern. As a teacher one of your responsibilities are the safety at all of the children under your supervision.

    This article from 7 days ago talks about his build. Their take on it is far less nefarious than some on here would like to believe. No big conspiracy here guys, put away the pitch forks and find another Muslim to go after in your spare time.....because that's what this is starting to sound like....a witch hunt.

    Also the kid wasn't arrested and suspended for having a gadget that could "shock someone". He was arrested on suspicion of having a bomb. Stop trying to change the narrative.

    Also, now that I have seen the picture of the "bomb" I am more convinced of the over reaction by police and school. That thing was tiny, and clearly only electronics....thinking it was anything else is laughable.

    Changing the narrative is the only reason this is a story.

    Also, if it was clearly only electronics, I don't see why we should ignore the teachers negligence in not spotting a clear safety risk. That would provide evidence that they were competent. That they couldn't identify the safety risk, shows that there were incompetent. Thus, laying the ground work that an English teacher may have worried that the device was an potential bomb.

    We wouldn't be having this discussion otherwise.

    I didn't think a new thread was needed but I saw this story on the news tonight.Id be interested to hear what you all think.
    In NJ the Muslim community at this school district wants a Muslim holiday with 6 days notice.Things get heated and it hits the news.The line the news is playing is "We will be the Majority soon".
    Im assuming it will bother some and others will support the issue.

    Well, I believe its the same most places , that the State dictates what days are honored and when.
    Even if its a local issue , they woulld have ot be elected in that District to the school board or governing body first.

    Still though , most districts follow the federal holiday schedule, roughly.


    Finally, specific to what you have shared about 6 days notice, I think that is just for shock value as well as the statement that followed.

    Now having watched the video, certainly seems as out of the ordinary procedure of how things are done.

    Also the fact that they can have those days off excused is a reasonable accomodation imo. IN addition to havng the normally scheduled days off, so inessence they are getting more excused days off than others.

    Just read over this bit of the thread from earlier and I honestly can't understand why the concern is being raised about the family, if that's all the dirt they can dig up after several days. So the father ran for president of his country - so what? We've got several threads on the AMT about people running for president; we don't necessarily think too highly of some of them, but that doesn't mean we immediately think they're terrorists. So the father defended the Qur'an, his holy book, when some Christian pastor "put it on trial" - so what? That doesn't seem much different than how you, GF, would defend your bible if it were put on trial. So the owner of some sports team called him and his sister helped him out on the phone - so what? I don't think I would have done a great job at 14 talking to a whole bunch of strangers I'd never met who were quizzing me about what I'd done to get suspended from school.

    No, it doesn't "make a little more sense". It makes no sense as far as I can see to try to make a case out of such flimsy evidence.
