Psychedelic Pearl Jam Songs

Since we have a PJ sex songs thread (or the lack there of), what about psychedelic Pearl Jam songs? There are a few that sound very psychedelic to me (besides "Bugs", haha!) Are there any you consider psychedelic music? Do you like them? Would you like more, fewer of none?

Yes! Live "You Are" Whoo hoo! Thanks! Yes, that's a great favorite PJ psychedelic song.

"In My Tree" also sounds rather psychedelic to me too.

Another great one, definitely. I would be totally up for more of this kind of stuff from PJ. It's a tough form of rock to do well and not be too over the top or under the table. PJ does it right.

I see Bugs as more of a metaphor for reporters and stalkers. But it could just be about meth idk

Jack Irons drums and style shines the most to me on this track... I would describe it as more tribal than anything... awesome track in my opinion

First thing that came to my mind. It's a trance-like, really beautiful and fluid tune. My opinion of what comes the closest to psychadelic.

Yes! Very much so, especially combined with that great video sequence in Touring Band. One of my favorites.

Brian, the way you posed the question would you like more?, my thought was Severed Hand. While musically maybe not their most psychedelic, but lyrically it is.

And you are right, Pearl Jam does it just right. :plus_one:

"Severed Hand" is such a great song! One of my favorites from the Pearl Jam LP.

    Yes, definitely psychedelic. image

    Of the earth

To me this is the most psychedelic song they've written. Around the 2 minute mark is where the drugs kick in...

I recently wondered to myself (while I was at a My Morning Jacket show) if Pearl Jam would push themselves further into this direction in the future.

Nice! Love that last 40 seconds or so too. Interesting how Stone is focused on Matt's playing much of the time.

That argument could certainly be made. None of them are quite as far out as, say, Hendrix's "Third Stone From the Sun". But I would say some are at least heavily psychedelia influenced. Maybe going all the way with that would not work for a band like PJ, but I'd be very interested in seeing them give it a shot. Or at least cover this one

Psychedelic, does that mean under the influence! ie grateful deads - dark star or Uk psychedelic act sphongle. A great book of psychedelia in music by Patrick Lundborg is worth checking out, interesting bit on the 13th floor elevators. Grunge had always droplets of osychedlic mingled into the punk ethic. Nirvanas break down in drain you , soundgardens black hole sun. With pearl jam their IMO more psychedlic in patches live, particularly porch and rearviewmirror( Manchester UK 2009, amazing!). No code is the more spacey record and had profound experiences listening to it, particularly in my tree and present tense. So as I don't regard them as a psychedlic band, they've definitely taken me to other places!

My husband says I chase our neighbors away because I piss them off. I truly hope he's not right. I would be devistated if I ruined someone's nite.

I'm not sure I'll ever pull the trigger on the pit. I'm too short. But shit I really wanna be down there!!

I agree that Pearl Jam songs don't qualify as real psychedelica, but the atmospheric songs do have a hint of psychedelica.
Nothing as it seems for instance comes very close for me.

To me the same goes for Pearl Jam songs with a punk twist. They never really are real punk songs. They have a punk edge that show the musical interest of the band.

Good point. They've often incorporated the best aspects of various rock genres- punk, psychedelia, metal, folk, even a few hints of jazz-- this may be a stretch but I hear jazz influences in songs like "Can't Keep".
