My parents both recently retired after 40 years each working as welfare-field social workers. Both of them are incredibly disappointed and jaded by just how high of a percentage of people play the system. Laziness at its finest. They would get the biggest thrill to help someone who truly needed it or someone who would land a job and cancel their assistance. Sadly that was like once a week in a constant crowded office. Both are immigrants and life-long dems if that matters for anything.

Have more kids and you get more benefits. School is free even tho they refuse to get a job. It goes on and on. Very sad to see. So many people abuse the benefits that people who need it are sometimes ashamed to come in for help. I have so much respect for people who use the benefits to help climb out of a hole and then proudly get off of them.

I really don't see what school being free has to do with it.

Sorry, but one person a WEEK who really needed it? So you're saying like 0.5% of them or so actually need it and aren't taking advantage? I don't believe that at all. I do know that when you work with people in that way you tend to focus on the negatives after a long period of time. I've experienced it myself. What you just said tells me a lot about your parents' perceptions after slogging away for years and years, but it doesn't tell me a thing about what the realities are.
