Does anyone else like the long forgotten 90s band Hum?
I still love them.
Downward Is Heavenward is a fantastic album and criminally overlooked.
You'd Prefer An Astronaut is very good as well.
Anyone else dig?

One of my absolute favorites!!! I discovered them in the 90's when they were still making albums. Sadly they haven't released anything in almost 20 years. I know they still play shows here and there, although not anywhere close to me. I'm still searching for "Downward" on vinyl. I've only seen it available a couple of times throughout the past few years.0

Still one of my all time favorites.
They are reissuing Downward on vinyl. Sounds like there might be some extras along with it. The process is moving slow, but it's happening.
Matt also has been selling OG vinyl copies of Electra and Astronaut. Electra is gone, but there still may be opportunities for Astronaut.

I've never even heard of them before, but am now listening to one of their albums (You'd Prefer An Astronaut). So far so good, although it's not blowing my mind or anything (yet). I'm finding there sound a tiny bit flat for my taste so far. But I'll check out Downward next if I like this one (or probably even if I don't... some bands have that ONE amazing album, and then a bunch of clunkers. Never good to write off a band without sampling every album IMO, unless you REALLY don't like them on first listen). So does this band have that one AMAZING album? If so, what do you think it is?
Thanks for posting OP - always nice to learn about a new (to me) band.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
That was the first time I saw the video and one of the best video riffs by them ever. Was never familiar with the video but KROQ played it to death when I was 14 or 15.eeriepadave said:0 -
I'm a fan. Didn't know of them until their second album and "Stars" was all over the radio and on Beavis And Butthead. I liked the song and bought the album, but I really didn't listen to it much except for "Stars", Then later when I got Downward Is Heavenward, which I LOVED I really became a fan and gave You'd Prefer An Astronaut and Elektra 2000 proper listens. I don't listen to them as much these days, but I played the hell out of those 3 albums in my teens and 20's, and still throw them on from time to time.Post edited by SatansFuton on"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0

Downward Is Heavenward. It basically killed the band, but many people consider it their best.PJ_Soul said:So does this band have that one AMAZING album? If so, what do you think it is?
I think this quote from the Wikipedia page says it best: Ned Ragget from Allmusic wrote, "Having scored their fluke hit with 'Stars', Hum hunkered down and created a follow-up album that went nowhere, leading to the band's splintering. An unfortunate result all around, because, arguably, Downward Is Heavenward isn't merely the group's best album, but a lost classic of '90s rock, period.

I've been painting the interior of my house.......every room, and I'm finding DIH and YPAA to be killer motivational music.
Hum is one of those bands that I'll listen to a lot then put them away for long periods. It's been cool to rediscover them again and again. If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0 -
I just sent someone in Lost Dogs two signed posters someone sent me years back. Will have to listen to them again.www.cluthelee.com0
