Cool. I had a friend who lives in the area that asked them about this but they didn't know anything about it.CM189191 said:

Even the record shops are "flipping" these!
I hope this doesn't become the norm with limited releases.Mansfield 06.28.2008 | Boston 05.17.2010 | Boston 06.19.2011 EV solo | Wrigley Field 07.19.2013 | Worcester 10.15.2013 | Worcester 10.16.2013 | Hartford 10.25.2013

Which is wrong, you know they bought the set for like $30 and would sell it for $50 initially.lotsalemon said:Even the record shops are "flipping" these!

Seriously. If my record store did this, I would stop buying records from them and just go online.lotsalemon said:Even the record shops are "flipping" these!

Retail markup is expected. But when something that is supposed to be in stores with a retail price tag of $50 ends up on the store's ebay or Discogs page for $100-200... that is indeed wrong!! And even more wrong when they are turning customers away. I'm with SuMay, if I saw my store doing this, it would be the end of my customer loyalty.a5pj said:

And the mom and pop shops wonder why people shop online...Mansfield 06.28.2008 | Boston 05.17.2010 | Boston 06.19.2011 EV solo | Wrigley Field 07.19.2013 | Worcester 10.15.2013 | Worcester 10.16.2013 | Hartford 10.25.2013

Not every mom and pop shop does it. I don't think any of my local stores have done anything like that. The stores in Seattle I use to get US only stuff shipped up here never price gouge me.lotsalemon said:

When pressings are this small I think everyone loses regardless if a few record stores gouge directly. If those record stores didn't gouge, someone would of bought it for regular price right away, the copy wouldn't be available for sale, and you'd still be looking for a gouged price on ebay. I would never support a store that did it, but I don't believe they are the root cause of the problem.
Extremely small pressings are. This set was unique in that it took ten years to create. Thus the first vinyl's were pressed back when vinyl was unpopular so they were already locked into a small pressing. Other sets (ahem RSD) are pressed in small quantities which gives incentive for both record stores and individuals to flip. Pressings should be big enough there isn't a financial gain from flipping

I go to a few record stores in Manhattan. There's one that does mark things up a little (a few dollars here and there) and I don't mind that because I know Manhattan rents are ridiculous and they have two grumpy cats in the store that I adore
But a store selling a box set that retails at $59.90 for $160? They should be ashamed of themselves. In fact, they should just shut down and go to eBay. That would save them overhead, right? 0 -
I know not every shop does it...but in the end, it hurts everyone. It just turns a lot of people off. Why bother driving all over town for something when you can get it online for considerably less?
Soundstage Direct put these directly to discogs for crazy amounts. Never offered on their site, and they bill themselves as an independent shop.Mansfield 06.28.2008 | Boston 05.17.2010 | Boston 06.19.2011 EV solo | Wrigley Field 07.19.2013 | Worcester 10.15.2013 | Worcester 10.16.2013 | Hartford 10.25.2013

Lakeshore Record Exchange from Rochester said I can have it for $149,99 plus $40 shipping to Germany. I refused...0

There's one on eBay for $99.99 with a buy it now. Cheapest one I've seen there.0

I saw that. Super disappointed. I've been a big fan of Soundstage Direct until now. I may start moving my online vinyl purchases somewhere else.lotsalemon said:

I stopped using them a while ago. The first was that their prices are kind of expensive. You need to buy records during the regular 10% or 15% off sales just to get the prices in reach of Amazon. On top of that they charge insane shipping prices to Canada. They're just as expensive as the 10cSuziemay said:
