The light makes a big difference with how this guitar looks. In certain light it does look much bluer and in other lights it seems more like a blue/green. In any case, is beautiful. I get to plug it in today so I'm looking forward to that.

  • If only they were in a different color other then the "Gold top". I know, I know, I'm one of the few that don't care for it.

Gibson had three color choices in 1959: the Custom in black, the Goldtop, and the Standard in burst finish. When most people think of the 1958-60 Les Paul, they think of the burst finish models. The Goldtop was more famous from 1952 to 1957. The 1959 Les Paul is usually considered to be the holy grail, with the PAF pickups and the burst finish.
Unfortunately today if I want to buy a new Gibson Les Paul with P90s I'm stuck with the gold top. I've always been a fan of Gibson's Tobacco burst and their honey burst.

If you are looking for a new Gibson Les Paul with P90s but not a goldtop, the 2015 LP Deluxes offer several different finishes one of which is a heritage cherry sunburst (link below).

The Deluxes have minihumbuckers but have the same cavities for P90s so they could be switched out without any modifications or rerouting. I did this a few years back with my Goldtop Deluxe (I am one that loves the goldtop). I dropped in Lollar P90s.

I should probably get my Les Paul out and start playing that more before I even think about a new guitar! Haha!

Or go with a Jr. Great axes, good price and a lot easier to handle that something with a maple cab. I have a single cut with a tummy cut and its a really comfortable guitar to play. I bought a Duesenberg a few months ago or it might've moved its way into the #1 slot over some other fine, more expensive guitars.

Oh I was on the verge of doing getting a deluxe a few years ago to do that very thing. But in the end declined.

I already have a Les Paul Junior and a SG Junior.

This guitar will get you some good bluesy clean tones, but it really has a nice growl to it when you turn up the amp and get a little tube breakup going on or have a dirty channel. All in all a versatile guitar that I am very glad I was able to get a hold of. Very playable neck with good action and the aesthetics with the bigsby and the black and blue color make it a great guitar.
