we slowed the march to look above
we looked up into the sky
with no idea not even a thought
we never thought we would die.

it was the spring of 68 before the coming change
the worlds eyes were upon us
yet we could not imagine what would come to pass
in the blink of an eye with all we say and do.

simple pleasures that hide the pain come to rule the night
with lightning strikes and thunderous cries
we changed the world and forever we will remember
the time we said good-by.

the common pleasures we took for granted
and the tears we cried have fallen from our eyes
but in our minds we set on fire the summer of 69.

and the memories remain and a new tear has fallen
for the nights we left behind.
