Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others.
According to the liner notes, the "artists were encouraged to not only record one of their own personal favorites but to also place their stamp on Jimi's songs." Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals.
The band M.A.C.C. is made up of Mike McCready (guitarist from Pearl Jam), Jeff Ament (bassist from Pearl Jam), Matt Cameron (drummer for Soundgarden and later for Pearl Jam), and Chris Cornell (singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave). The cover of "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" is their only known recording. All four members of this group had previously worked together on the Temple of the Dog project.
Eric Clapton's backing group on the title track includes the three original core members of Chic (Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson) and is the last recording on which all three played together.

There will probably be a ton of these with the Black vinyl option included, so I will wait and read some sound reviews before buying. The old CD may sound better.0

The black one is available over @ http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stone-Hendrix-tribute-black-vinyl/dp/B00SCIZA5C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422102853&sr=8-1&keywords=stone+free+vinyl. Was a little afraid to place an order with Amazon USA & Canada cause they usually chance the color description on their vinyl pre orders on their website. Both are Temporarily out of stock for them.manitouman said:Acoustic sounds says release date TBA and Soundstage says it's in stock? Have both the colored and black version been released?
Before you place an order with Acoustic Sounds or Sound Stage Direct, make sure to email them before you place an order, so you won't be receiving the black vinyl instead of the colored vinyl they still have listed available for sale on their website.Post edited by demetrios on0
