    Watched The Interview last night on the Roku for $2.99. Didn't even actually have to pay as Vudu gave me a $5 credit for signing up. Screw cable and sattelite.

    For March Madness you can watch all the games online for free on cbs.com. As long as you have a good internet connection it works better than TV in that you can see all the scores and time left and just click on the game that either is close or ending soon.

    Yea but I mean if you have internet you haven't really gotten rid of the cable company have you? If it were only me I'd get rid of cable and just use some else's password for ny1.
    I have that showbox app on my phone. I'm afraid to use it. I don't understand how it's safe.

    The thing about this is that something has to change dramatically soon. Cable isn't just going to become obsolete while we enjoy all of these alternative options for practically nothing. Once the major networks can't get the commercial dollars anymore because of Netflix and all the rest, they are going to figure out a way to get money out of us directly. So enjoy it while you can folks.

    we cut cable about a yr ago & just kept the internet. we're now etfl x $200/month.

    bought a Roku--subscribe to Netflix & Hulu. Plus, a buddy hooked us up with his HBOGO & WatchESPN feed. So, we're good!

    Yup...

    I think we will start to see a lot of major stations/sports leagues etc start to go with a streaming app option.... but then you will see stations band together in different apps so you will have to subscribe to things you dont want to capture things you do want.... then paying for internet that the cable companies (Comcast) control.... we will end up back here, probably paying more.

    I know here in Canada Shaw and Bell (both own satellite companies and operate ctv and global) have both tossed out the possibility that over the air the stations might not be sustainable ... i'm not sure about that. The internet has changed everything ... the sat/cable/tv stations/movie studios remind me how the music industry got caught off guard by the internet ...

    I would love to do it. But there's still too many live sporting events on cable TV for me to get rid of it. I know there are websites where you can stream games illegally, but that's unreliable and the quality is usually garbage.

    I am hoping it is building towards cafeteria style tv, where I can just pay a small fee for the channels/services I want and not have to subscribe to all the added bullshit that comes with cable/satelitte. I think these channels more and more are going to start looking at it as an opportunity to connect directly with consumers.

    I have an Appletv and you can get MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS thru their subscription services. Now the bad part about them is that local games are going to be blacked out. It works for me because I live in Maryland and I'm a Cubs and Blackhawks fan.. so unless they play teams from Pittsburgh or Washington, I'm good. But if I were to live in Chicago, it would be pointless cuz I'd never get to see their games.

    You can also get Netflix and Hulu Plus, although Hulu Plus on Appletv kinda sucks (not nearly as much available to watch as on a computer - not sure why?) You can get ESPN, but only if your ISP is partnered.

    I think the NFL has an exclusive contract with Directv, so no matter what you do, you'll need a satellite subscription to get the NFL package.

    I got rid of cable altogether. It sucks for sports, but I have apple tv and I love netflix and crackle and ufc tv. cut the cord that is cable. it's expensive and almost entirely useless.

    I wish I could. But just can't do because of sports. While it is ridiculously expensive, at least it's something that I use a lot. Makes me feel a little bit better about it.

    I hear ya. If I was a big sports guy I wouldn't have ditched cable either. It sucks cause I got rid of it just as the Winnipeg Jets channel became part of the cable package (basically free), instead of an extra $10 per month. Oh well. More money for UFC.

    Thinking about ditching cable...have these streaming devices gotten any better?

    Could I live in midwest and somehow get denver local channels (fox, cbs, nbc, abc)? Trying to see if I can get the Broncos games in the midwest via a streaming device.

    What about this sling app?

    Sorry for all the questions. Just looking for info from someone with experience using a device like the Roku, etc. You can get your local live channels right? Or you need an app like Sling?

    Use the Kodi app and whatever method you like for streaming from your device to your TV (i use chromecast). Just Google Kodi and how to do the setup (there is a kodi setup wizard, but I have found that doing it manually works better in the long run).
    But this isn't for live TV.

    Roku and Apple TV. Been using that since early 2015 and bought a Roku with my tax return money. Fuck cable especially since all the big 4 American pay TV movie channel companies use streaming alternatives now.

    Sony Vue and Sling are good alternatives as well.

    i seriously need to get rid of cable soon. My bill is about $170 a month (cable and internet). I would keep the internet and just drop the cable. Talked to one of my friends who suggested getting a roku 3 or firestick. Then sign up for playstation vue. Although i'm not sure if i need a playstation to get the vue or not.

    We do the Roku, Netflix, Hulu plus SlingTV. It's got around 30 cable channels like AMC, ESPN, ESPN2 and is $20 a month. We also add HBO to that for $15.
