Hello All,
I'm heading out to the Lincoln NE show from Boulder CO. I'm staying right around the venue. Just wondering if any locals have suggestions for places we should see while in town. Maybe some tasty grub for before the show and some place that would be fun for some post-PJ music. Any suggestions would be welcome! Much thanks!

There's got to be more to do than a coffee shop! I saw a couple breweries and restaurants near the venue, any recommendations about the best beer and restaurant in town?0

Everything I know about Lincoln I learned from the movie Nebraska. My friend and I were curious if the bar in the movie is actually a bar in Lincoln. We would like to visit as we both loved that movie. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Ghandi0

Well, I think I have answered my own question with a Google search. The bar featured in the movie was filmed in a town north of Lincoln - in Hooper, NE.

zipline has the best beer in town period. but not walkable from the venue, however some downtown places might have them on tap. lazlo's downtown has great food, and they brew thier own beer also but 2nd rate comp to zipline. also have heard that lead belly has good food but have never been there myself downtown area is nice and should be a nice day on oct. to stroll around .......enjoy!Rapid City '98, Denver 1 '06, Kansas City '10

It is very painful to see only a coffee shop listed so here is some additional info. The Mill is good coffee and there are
2 more coffee shops on the same corner. Crescent Moon is one of them and by far has the better espresso.
I second that review about Zipline brewery and you will find something of Zipline's on tap at most bars. It is a really nice setup around the arena w/ bars/restaurants. Leadbelly is good food too. Longwell's is right across the street and has 100+ taps. Lazlo's is only a couple of blocks away and decent beer not as good as Zipline but better food. Across from Lazlo's is Ivana Cone which is very good homemade ice cream. Also a good bookstore located here. Vega is hosting the Wishlist party and is right next (upstairs) from Longwell's. You will find most people hanging out in this area right across from the arena. It has a courtyard with a big screen TV and plenty of options for food & drink and is known as 'The Railyard'. Barry's bar & grill has a great rooftop deck only a couple of blocks from the arena.
The University of Nebraska is only a few blocks away so worth a walk over there and more bars/restaurants in that area too. The whole area from the arena/university/downtown is pedestrian friendly and maybe a mile across total so easy to get around. Dempsey's is closer to the University but always has good beer and a solid burger. If you don't mind walking around a bit look up Yia Yia's pizza. Good pizza and the best beer selection of any bar in town. Within a clock of Yia Yia's is Jake's, which is a cigar bar with incredible bloody mary's and a great craft beer selection. Yia Yia's and Jake's are in the downtown/college bar area.
Recycled Sounds is a good record store about 5 blocks from the venue. Across the street from Recycled Sounds is the Blue Orchid if you like Thai food. If you get too bored and just want to watch a movie, there is a 12 plex in this area too.
Here is a map of the Haymarket area which is the immediate few blocks around the arena. This map lists most of the places but not all. Hope this helps.I'll ride the wave, where it takes me...0 -
Sorry, it looks like that image didn't work. Here is a link to a map of the Haymarket area.

Thanks pjtour for the info and the map. We will be driving from Tulsa the day of the show and leaving the next day so won't have much time, but hope to at least have time to take a walking tour of the area. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. So any suggestions on where to stay? It appears as if we have waited too late to get the hotels closest to the arena. Is there good taxi service in Lincoln? Is there a certain area I should at as far as getting a hotel? The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Ghandi0

Sounds like most of the hotels near the railyard/haymarket are full. However, the cornhusker (which I believe is owned by Marriott now) has rooms. It's a few extra blocks but still walkable. Plus they have a decent pub there run by Miller and you will be walking past numerous bars and restaurant along the way.6/24/98: Rapid City, SD

Thanks for all the info people! Moving to Iowa from Virginia next month, so suffice to say I've never heard anyone talk about Lincoln, and I had a feeling I'd just be walking around going to shit bars. Definitely will have to check out the record store!0

The Cornhusker Hotel is a nice hotel and has a good restaurant and bar inside. Definitely in walking distance to the arena/Haymarket area. If you walk from the hotel you will actually go right through downtown and by the University area.
Very easy to get around the heart of Lincoln, streets are numbers running East/West (1st, 2nd, 3rd streets, etc.) and lettered streets going North/South ( A St, B St, etc.) Cornhusker Hotel is at 13th & L Streets and the Arena is at 7th & R Streets.
Recycled Sounds (record store) is at 9th & P Streets.
Can't wait for my Jamily to come visit Lincoln!I'll ride the wave, where it takes me...0 -

There is a lot to do in Lincoln! Around the arena is the new Railyard that has a few bars (one with over 100 beers on tap) and some food. There are tons of other restaurants and bars in the Haymarket as well, Lazlos makes their own beer which is also pretty good.
If you go a few blocks East towards O Street there's another district there with many bars and restaurants that I'd also recommend. For hotels, if you get a room at the Cornhusker (which was recently renovated) it is roughly only a 10-15 minute walk to the arena which isn't too bad.
There will definitely be plenty to keep you busy until show time, enjoy!0 -
There's gotta be some kind of corn maze there... Or maybe make your own... Cow tippin??? Tornado hunting?? IDK cause I've never been.
