Why did PJ speed up Even Flow? (Theories)

a) Matt Cameron drumming
b) Eddie can't sing the song at the original speed and intensity anymore
c) The band doesn't like the song and wants it to end quicker
d) So Mike could have more time for his solo
e) Other

Personally, I wish they slowed down the song and brought back the funk. The song had much more groove, power and intensity. That is what made it a hit in the first place.

    I always guessed that it was a combination of "A", "D", & maybe a little of "C".

Of course, that is just a guess.

it's not just Even Flow. Lots of songs are faster live than on the record. Corduroy, Do The Evolution, and Wold Wide Suicide to name a few.

I just was introduced to Drop in the Park and Even Flow is a sticky icky icky hunk a slow burnin', super bass churnin, dose o' straight up funk on that record... it's like a whole different song.

Not better or worse, but "A" is my answer.

    I don't know the answer (it's Stone's fault), but (it's Stone's fault) I don't like when they speed (it's Stone's fault) through the songs. It's not a race, guys!

It's not just Even Flow. Listen to YL from the 90's, specifically one of the Bridge School versions. Then, listen to YL from 2000 or later. It goes from a slow, bluesy song to a fast rocker.

    It's Matt...for better or worse.

I think its Matt's ''fault'' for all those songs you mention above and i guess there are more songs..for me its great..i think Matt lead the band in a faster level..

If you play the radio hits for the millionth time, you want the fans to be happy but over at the same time. Plus you can maybe fit a song or two by shaving time. When they play an arena or stadium, its contracted out for a certain period of time. If they play over the contractual time period, the band has to pay like 5k a minute over.

I suppose the Obvious reason would be Matt but then again I don't think it would only just His decision...it would be the Band as a Whole that agrees on the Speed of the Song and how it gets played.

i think it is faster because, as a guitar player for the last 20 years, it is natural tendency to want to play the songs faster in a live setting. there is more energy there and if you slow something down it kind of takes away from that energy. plus a lot of that is due to the drummer playing a little fast as well.

i really dislike how fast they play this song now. this song has lost all of the meaning that it had for me 20 years ago.

to be honest, i think they need to give the song a break for awhile. in my opinion, it is just an excuse for mike to solo for 5 minutes without going for the wank off arena rock guitar solo like kirk hammett and eddie van halen used to do. it is faster now because mike would look like a tool playing behind his head when the song is half as fast.

Don't know why it got faster, but I really wish they would slow it down. The song deserves to be savored slowly!

I think it's a band decision to play everything faster. Tunes are gonna get a little live boost in tempo, but there are quite a few songs that really need to slow down, Evenflow being one of the big offenders.

    A. A lot of the songs are faster with Matt on drums. It's not a bad thing. It's just his style. A lot of songs needed to be sped up to fit with his drum style. There is a lot of energy when songs are played live as well. This is truly just a guess though. :)
