It's sad that I wake up and read a story like this every morning that recaps all the shootings that too place the night before.. I can't believe this is the same city that I live in....it might as well be a different planet. What a mess.

Happens everywhere all the time, and you have to look hard to find it reported anymore because it's so common.Indifference71 said:It's sad that I wake up and read a story like this every morning that recaps all the shootings that too place the night before.. *It's not funny to joke about this. Especially when the detail are not known. I feel terrible for the people involved in this, and the trauma the kid is going to go through, or already has gone through...Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?0 -
yes it might be completely justifiable based on the actual facts

They call failures in summer, when people are outdoors, the result of lax gun laws (even though Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country).

Yeah, they definitely get creative with their stats and numbers. They were raving about percent decreases in crime early in the year....after the winter we had in Chicago, of course crime would be down. Don't hear much about the stats and numbers the past few weeks.unsung said:They call successes in winter, when people are indoors, good police work.

Chicago may have strict gun laws, but the sentences for some of these gun crimes in Illinois are laughable. I don't have any specific examples, but there are so many stories out there about some gangbanger involved in a shooting right after getting out of jail and serving a minimal sentence for a gun crime.
A couple of my family members are CPD and they say the biggest issue is manpower. They just don't have enough cops to cover these problem areas.0 -

It's strange, I've walked alone in some rough places in Europe without even really knowing where I was. I wouldn't dare walk through some parts of Chicago. My feelings have zero to do with guns, it is about situational awareness.Post edited by unsung on0 -

"There has to come a tipping point where this changes," Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday of the violence. "The illogical nature of what's happening here -- that government can intercede and prevent this from happening is overwhelming. And I refuse to think otherwise in a great country like America that we can continue to allow this to happen -- not just on a state, but on a federal level."
McCarthy, reciting the criminal histories of several of the suspects in this weekend's violence, noted gang members face tougher consequences for losing their guns from their gangs than from authorities.
"Possession of a loaded firearm -- it's not even considered a violent felony in the state of Illinois for sentencing purposes -- which is why you see the revolving door," he said.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

Walk the beat? Get serious. You would need a cop on every street. If a crime was occurring 10 blocks away... we would have to have some pretty fast runners out there!
You are ridiculous with the expectations you place on the profession compared to what you think they are worth. You cannot expect a police force to be omnipresent unless you are willing to pay for more cops to be in more areas. You cannot expect to recruit the most appropriate people to enter the police profession when you pay them peanuts. And don't give me any of that they get paid plenty bullshit. We've been through this before and it has been established that the beat cops get paid shit.
At least if the profession got a little respect for the difficult job they do... they'd feel better with the 'pats on the back' from the fatsos with big mac sauce on their cheeks. You know... the guys that figure the cops are terrible, but tremble every time they hear a noise and have the cops on speed dial."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

Posts: 9,487Actually we have been through their pay before and I illustrated that most police where I live make $85k and more with many making over $100k. I sent the link for proof to someone on the forum, but I'm not posting it because it's nobody's business where I live. I live near Chicago.0

I read it and reported back to you that the wages you just flaunted were to superintendents and other high ranking officers.
The lowly 'walk the beat' cops were making $45,000. You would make more... oh... driving a Loomis truck and you wouldn't have to risk your life. You could deliver newspapers and make close to that for gawds sakes.
* I have nothing against Loomis drivers. A needed job in our society and I respect their efforts.
