I thought it got the best reaction tbh, the boot is going to sounds so good without all the whooping and shit that drowns out a lot of their other acoustic performances...it seemed to fit perfectly with the Viking history of Oslo too.

Let's not act as if there's a huge reaction to other really rare songs. Even if there is big 10c turnout a song like Strangest Tribe is never gonna get a huge reaction. Not everybody follows every setlist and even if they did, it's not a song for everybody.

Comparing it to Leash is pretty off base. People that don't even know that song are gonna get drawn in just from the high energy nature.

I saw Bee Girl in Boston and there wasn't some huge reaction, so maybe PJ should quit playing rare songs there.

I think there was a similar thread or posts in the fanviews after they played Hitchhiker for the first time in Manchester II '12 - people sat at home behind their keyboard going "look the crowd is dead, they don't even know the song" etc. Jealousy is a terrible thing.

To even suggest that one town deserves one song over another town is pretty sad in my opinion. I thought it was really cool that they would play this and played it in Oslo. I would have loved to have seen it and am happy for those that got to see it and experience what looks like an amazing show. Why can't we celebrate that as a community of Pearl Jam fans instead of acting like they should have played it somewhere else? C'mon

I know. How about the band plays rare tunes only for the shows that Foriginal Sin attends. That way we can ensure the song is appreciated and we can avoid all this nonsense of spontaneity and surprise that make a PJ live show an enjoyable event.

It's a slow song and it would not make sense for a crowd to rock out to it. They listened and they clapped- what else more could you expect from them?

Yeah, the only hardcore fans are at the Gorge (never been) or MSG (hopefully never will be in NY) Try anywhere in Philly, Florida, California, Texas, Chicago, Milwaukee, Phoenix (yes the same Phoenix that they never saw in 10 years but Ed keep playing fantasy ball with the Cubs and eventually played Bee Girl and Around the Bend to everyone's surprise, That's appreciation.)
The point is that if 99% of the crowd didn't appreciate it, than it SHOULD NOT have been played.

Sorry for off topic but we hope you'll never be here in NY either. Wow. People talk really bad about other peoples home states on these boards.

The song was played due to the never ending requests by a guy from Germany named Mike. During the 2012 tour he made tons of banners with "strangest tribe" written on them and handed them out to people (got one myself too). He went to multiple shows that tour and showed the banner (even got the finger from Ed once or twice). He took the banner since then to shows in south america and the last US tour. This Euro tour the banner kept on going being reinforced by the euro crowd (some with their own 2012 "strangest tribe" banners and some with signs made on the spot). Mike did (I think) all the shows up until now and at every show has shown the banner and requested the song. At Berlin, a bunch of people on the rail spelled out the song name on individual letters and Ed told them to spell a different song name with the letters (they spelled "Bee girl" which the band then played that night).
To say that "Oslo did not deserve it" is ridiculous. It was the perfect crowd reaction for that song - total silence in order to appreciate being a part of PJ history!

    (/end rant)
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

Ed rewarded a fan or group of fans for their dedication and persistence. Saying one town didn't deserve a song is entitlement at its finest, and honestly, doesn't even make any sense. The crowd reaction would have been the same everywhere in the world, save for possibly Seattle. And i actually thought the reaction was more awe than indifference. Thats how it seemed to me. Also, don't forget this band has been touring for over 20 years. Keeping things interesting and fresh what keeps this band on stage year after year. Suggesting they only bring out rarities at the cities you mentioned is laughable.

Should have been played in NYC, Chicago or somewhere in the states. I've watched 4 different videos, there was NOT any sort of reaction when the song started. As Gordon Ramsay would say, "It's a shame"

People like you are the worst thing about the fan club / following the band. It's a freaking song at a concert. No one "deserves" anything more than anyone else at a specific concert. Get a life.

you don't have to be loud to appreciate the music. I actually think that the reaction yesterday was way more extraordinary and magical, than if the whole crowd had been singing along. I mean, how often are Pearl Jam fans actually quiet??!

-can't wait to hear that bootleg!

PJ plays a lot of shows. They bust out songs all over the place, and you can't possibly go to every show to catch them all. I've seen my share of crazy rarities, and I've missed several along the way. I am jealous of Strangest Tribe, but what can you do? Saying Oslo didn't deserve it is just sour grapes. Get over it.

but there are plenty of people who do go to every show, or at least try! I mean fuck... when i went to Buffalo last year I listened to some lady talk about how they were seeing the entire first leg of the tour and that they could only see 6 shows on the second leg...

when I asked what she did for a living that allows her that much time to travel the people around her looked at me like I was the retard...

and you completely forget about the people running that fucking "list"
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
