Should cannabis be decriminalised worldwide

It's an ongoing discussion and sometimes ignorantly ignored by governments. With now washington state and uruguay decriminalising the drug, is it time for the rest of the world to move forward. I used to smoke ganja alot but found the quality so poor , that now I decline to smoke it. It did however help with my asthma and lifted me out of depression, but found people mis-treated the drug and sometimes caused intense paranoia. Until governments address this issue young people are still going to take the drug, so then being exposed to other drugs. It has many positive attributes and would be good as a medicine for many illnesses, but drug companies have millions of pounds invested in current drugs being used. So it's only sane to decriminise in my opinion, people are going to smoke it regardless.

    I'm not sure what you mean by this...do you believe it's a so-called gateway drug?

    Anyway, yep...totally support its legalization at the most, decriminalization at the least.

    It should be at the federal level in the US. I am not a resident of another country so it would be out of line for me to say how they should do things.

    Definitely support cannabis legalization, for both medical and recreational use. It would be great to see it legalized in the US at the federal level, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. In Colorado, it's been a big positive... there were a few isolated kinks in the system early on, but they were quickly addressed (edible serving size/doses, for example). From a public health standpoint, it's a no-brainer compared to alcohol. And even safer now that it's legal and regulated. I barely paid attention to the legalization effort here, but since the stores have opened it's been like one of those unexpected little bonuses life throws your way once in a while.

    I don't disagree, but I'm not going to dictate how other countries should or should not run themselves.

    I struggle with this. I don't know the answer.

    Have always sided with rights to protect oneself but at what cost? In home. Sure. But I have problems of perceived threat and that perceived threat causing me more risk such as open or really even concealed. Along with not properly securing.

    Sometimes we as society need controls for the whole. The balance is the key. I'm rambling but hope you get what I'm saying. Not agreeing necessarily.

    No worries- you can have as many guesses as you want. ;-) (Besides, I'm not sure there is an answer.)

    As for the OP's question- personally I don't understand why any drug derived directly from a plant is illegal anywhere when synthetic drugs (i.e. pharmaceuticals) are not only legal put basically pushed on consumers by big pharma corp and many docs. And besides, people who are prone to abusing/becoming dependent on drugs (or TV or internet or anything else) will do so whether legal or not. These laws just over-stuff prisons. Great way to get cheap labor though, huh?
