So i was reading this article last night and came across a passage that was eerily similar to how i would describe much of the PJ fan base -

They are really nasty. It’s a general rule they have a fan base that just seem to be always angry at the Rolling Stones for a lot of reasons. They’ve got their own grudges.

In the history of my music fandom (Rolling Stones included), I have never been once angered at the band (Pearl Jam included)... for anything. I love music more than anything, except my family, and I have drifted in and out of bands because of their changing styles or viewpoints, but never to a point of being angry.0

I think most PJ fans are content. There's a vocal minority on the message board that aren't but I'd describe it more as "frustrated" than "angry". Most of it coming from those people who can't get tickets to see their favorite band live.0

No, I don't think so.... PJ fans are a community, with most of us remembering to keep the tone "nice" and polite. We may get snarky, but the band set a tone way back in the day. "Don't be an a$$hole" and at the same time don't take any $hit from anyone, it is a tight rope sometimes. But really it is a pretty easy way to live.
Rolling Stones fans? Not sure they have the same sort of "togetherness" we have.0 -
I think the anger is much more often directed at a)10C management or b)other members than it is at the band.___________________________________________

I think whats important to understand is that the anger is really limited.
First and foremost, if we have 200,000 members in this club, there are perhaps 20,000 on this message board in ANY capacity.
(I'm pulling these numbers out of my behind, but bare with me).
If you look at the daily number of members on here, it is minuscule. In fact someone can ring in with the highest total number ever to visit at one single time. (Usually during an announcement or something). And it is not a big number.
Of those say 20,000, there are less 200 usually complaining on here, and most are entitled, ignorant, whiners with like 1 post or something. They are confused they didn't get tickets, didn't think about the big picture, and lay out some ridiculous arguments.
So as a percentage of the total fan club, there are less than 1% complaining.
Yeah, like in EVERY industry the people who are content or happy, just go about their business whilst the whiners yell to the high heaven.
So they are loud and seem overwhelming. But in reality, this club is full of good people, mostly anonymous, who enjoy their tickets and their merch and no one ever hears a peep out of them.0 -

I think it's this with both bands and the Stones have a much bigger fanbase.
I actually think it's like this with just about every band. The gripers and the ass kissers seem to be the most vocal, but their comments can come off as inflammatory and often get alot of attention.0 -
So no one was angry about .... oh i don't know - Target? Oracle Appreciation Show? Not touring enough, Not touring the south or midwest or etc.... ?????
Mainly the article was about this guy who drew up the new Stones logo with an ape and Stones lips - and the fans got all over him how it was shit etc.
I could totally see that happening to Ames or Klausen.
When he said he was happy to have a chance to piss off the Stones fans i laughed because these guys have to know they are always going to piss someone off. And the hardcore fan does tend to be very vocal about EVERYTHING (except anything positive)
I thought the artist had a great view. And when he said "they all have their own grudges" Well it reminded me of my first sentence in this post.
Whether some of our friends are angry at the band for "selling out" or "too many hits on the setlist" or the famous "too many side projects" there do seem to be a lot of personal grudges against the band around here.
Its all good though. No 23 year relationship goes w/o a disagreement here and there.
Lastly, if we are this pissy now - imagine how grumpy this bunch will be in 25 more years (if we get that lucky).0 -
No. The angry/frustrated people are a tiny minority. I think most of the fans are pretty lovey-dovey when it comes to the band. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

I belong to Shidoobee (Stones messageboard) as well as the 10C, both have vocal minorities who criticize every thing the band does (or is accused of doing). Don't think one fan base is better/worse than the other. We are passionate about the bands we love listening to.Ottawa 2011

I love questions like this... Here's the thing.. Any band, doesn't matter if it's the Stones, PJ, Nirvana or Shooting Guns (Canadian band I love that know one knows about)...
You fall in love with that band at point 'X'. But the band evolves, they sometimes grow up. The band means something different to you than it does to them. So when you fell in love with them at point 'X' that point stays with you forever, for the band though, the band has already gone through X, Y, Z etc... and for bands with staying power like the Stones or PJ, who knows how many different changes they have been through.
So fans get annoyed or frustrated cause they love what they fell in love with at point 'X' but the bands is always evolving and can't stay at point 'X' forever.
My thoughts at least."Born on third, thinks he got a triple."0 -
Not many fans are on here, and most people don't waste their time getting angry at a rock band.
What you see on the board is not at all reflective of the fan base. If you are talking about just the board, then I'm with you...lots of manufactured internet anger at times.Download the unofficial Pearl Jam Stat Tracker app for iPhone/iPad.
