How exactly does the GA pit work?

Fuck any GA list. I won't be abiding to something like that if I get GA tickets. And nobody would care. I'd be happier in the back of GA with an unobstructed view than standing where someone with a black marker told me to.

In Phoenix on the last tour, we showed up about 3:00 or so and saw the GA lined up already. Heck with that, not wasting my whole day in line! We went to the merch tent, went over to drink a few over dinner at the Tap Room, then went to the Wishlist party at the Irish bar right next to the arena and then "stumbled" into the arena about 7:30 or so. We had a great view, about 15-20 people back between Ed and Stone (just behind the dad and the little girl that were invited to the side of the stage to hang with Ed's family). To me, it's all about the total experience, and we had an GREAT day, night and show. It's not about standing in line all day just so you can see the pimple on Ed's nose.

This is the first time that I'm getting tickets since the new system was put in effect. Reading this whole exchange about GA just made me keep only the reserved seating choice. I work and won't be able to get there anytime before 5pm. This list business scared me enough to avoid GA.

Yep, sound like a giant pain in the butt for something that should be very enjoyable. I'll stick with the reserved seats.

The line/number system is a bit crazy and also (grossly) abused. Unless you want 1st row, you can show up some time before doors open, maybe an hour or so, and still be pretty much in the front, perhaps 3-5 rows back if you go to the sides (a little more if you choose the center).
I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream...
If I knew where it was I would take you there.

Exactly. Heck, you can show up 45 minutes before showtime and still get a decent view. It seems like fans of the list are just as interests in grabbing a set list or some free wine as they are in the music.

Now...us fans *could* introduce our own "show up at 6pm and get a ticket with a number for a random drawing" system if we really wanted to. This way, fans could go to the parties, etc.

The sense of self entitlement the sharpie people have is laughable. Wait in line, get where you can get, and enjoy the show.

Get there as early as you can. The setup differs by venue, so there is no other good general advice to give you. Example: my daughter and I were in GA for Pittsburgh last year, the opening night of the tour. We arrived at about 3 pm and there were already about 75 people in line ahead of us. At Consol Energy Center, GA people were told to wait in line at one set of doors, and that was the line we waited in. As it turned out, you could have gotten into the venue through a set of doors that opened at the same time on the opposite corner of the arena, and there was no line at those doors. Still turned out great with where we were in line, though, cause we ended up on the rail right in front of the Mighty Mike McCready, exactly where we wanted to be!

I had Reserved in Pittsburgh but I entered through the doors right next to the GA line. Here is a pic...

When the opened the doors a line of people who were not in the GA line went right for the doors. The people in the original line were pissed. I remember one person who was the original line saying to a line cutter something like "it going to be very bad for you in the pit dude."

We havnt had GA yet but hope to for this tour, that list stuff is bs what makes them any different then the rest of us to enforce a list, like someone else said you get there early you make friends if you need to go get something to eat or go to the bathroom then you make sure that person holds your spot thats the way it should work

Whether this band or any other band fans that feel they are entitled to stuff really pisses me off, its very simple you show up when you want to you wait and thats your spot no list no hand numbers, you make friends talk to people and even if you are not chatty im sure there is enough respect that if you want to go to the bathroom your spot is safe

if we win ga which will be our first time being that close and is my girlfriends dream she will be getting to the arena really early to ensure our spot, due to health issues i wont be able to wait there all day but i will join her at some point

A la Springsteen. It's a good method. It just stings a bit when you are on the tail end of the numbers.
