Speed of Sound recorded acoustic version?

Hi

Does anyone know where this original recording can be found? Was it on a 7"? Really loving it. Much cooler than the album version! Need to get a copy. :)

I believe it is Ed's demo and the download was the 'prize' during the Backspacer cover art online scavenger hunt. I also enjoy this version more than the album.

Completely agree...this the best version of this song. What ended up on the record was a disappointment.

Sometimes it's like I'm the only one who loves Backspacer :-? That's a pretty cool demo, but the album version, for me, is the way to go.
I feel like Matt and Jeff really gel nowadays and, like Sleeping by Myself, they can give a different feel to a song that's already great.
Thanks for posting the link, I hadn't heard this before. Maybe it'll show up on the second LostDogs?

In the good old days of singles this would have no doubt been released as a b-side. It's a shame those don't exist any more.

Definitely would be a great 'B Side'. I miss those too. :(

I totally love Backspacer. No idea why it gets a whipping by so many? For me, the production is super clean but I do think because of that it loses something edgy, a PJ energy. Particularly in Speed of Sound. It just sounds a bit to 'pop-py' for me.

    Still love the album though!

The demo is gorgeous. As for the album version, I think it's something about Matt's part... and I love Matt usually. It's just a little too tight or something. It's as if the song needs to breath more and the beat is too funky... almost a Motown feel. I wish they had a different arrangement of the song, because I really love it.

I think I read somewhere that BOB wasn't keeping as many of the parts from when the band does it's live tracking in studio. So that would lend to a "cleaner" sound for sure.

I always skip Speed of Sound on Backspacer ..but enjoyed this demo version. I think since The End is acoustic they added the drums and band on the album for Speed of Sound. Backspacer is a softer album, you can tell fatherhood has set in for Ed. For this reason Gonna See My Friend and Supersonic seem to not fit the album flow. Replace Supersonic with say Infallable or Swallowed Whole and this demo of SOS and I would really love it more.
