Flea Vs. Jeff Ament

All I hear about is Flea from the RHCP when it comes to bassists. Does Jeff actually have no chance when it comes to him. Whats your thoughts? How good is Jeff?

    On a technical level? You are correct: Jeff has no chance.

    Personal preference? I prefer Jeff's soulful playing and songwriting.

    I loooooooooooove Jeff's playing, but I think Flea can do alot more when it comes to bass...slap it it, support, melodic lines, sit in the pocket...about the best you can ask for, for the rock format.

    Love both styles of both Jeff and Flea. Can't choose, they are both great in their own way.

    Flea obliterates him on a technical level. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy listening to PJ songs more so... It is what it is I guess.

    PJ just doesn't let Jeff do things like Flea does or did in RHCP.

    If you like Flea you like Flea.

    If you like Jeff you like Jeff.

    Both Bass style players are on the shortlist.

    Choosing between? - A pretty good problem to have.

    while their main styles are different, and Ament is considered a very good bassist.... Flea is "technically" "better" as everyone says. Flea is among the tops on the instrument and alone would be in the Bass Player HOF if they had one.

    As mentioned, RHCP "features" Flea/Bass (which is normal considering the strong Funk influence), while PJ and their style doesnt.
