Zookeepers kill healthy baby giraffe with a bolt gun because he was 'surplus

WTF?!?! This is insane.

Ya know, this really brings back something very fucked I once witnessed. I once applied for a job at a large pharmaceuticals company taking care of lab animals. I was young and naive and thought maybe I could give these animals some good care despite their sad fate. But during the interview/tour of the facility one of the employees killed a rabbit in front of me in a way I will not describe here except to say that it was shocking, especially because this guy obviously took pleasure in the killing. With a twisted smile on his face he told me this was part of the job. Obviously I didn't take the job. To my way of thinking this kind of person is not human. The sickness that runs in the minds and veins of people like that guy in the lab or these people in the zoo is something I can't understand.

Is our species really that full of pollution? Fuck- someone please say something to restore my faith in humanity.

There were animal sanctuaries offering to take it in too. I don't get it.

Who the fuck brings their children to witness this?

Such a sad and unneeded thing. Yes they could have sterilized him and/or sent him to any of the facilities who had offered to take him. Someone just really wanted to kill him.

Brian, sometimes I despair of the inhumanity of mankind. The only thing that give me comfort (other than not participating in animal/people abuse) is to remember that there are many people who try to stop this type of thing, and focus on helping them

Despite the death threats and worldwide disgust when the Copenhagen Zoo in Denmark killed 2-year-old giraffe Marius to prevent inbreeding on Sunday, Feb. 9, a second zoo in the country plans to kill a giraffe -- and says it’s in the animal’s best interest.

The second giraffe, coincidentally also named Marius, lives at the Danish Jyllands Park Zoo. To make room for a female giraffe it plans to acquire, the zoo plans to put down its 7-year-old male, balancing out genders in the facility.

Zoos and aquariums are wrong. They shouldn't be legal. Yeah yeah, breeding programs, education, blah blah blah. That doesn't change the fact that it's immoral.

I do not understand why they can't find another place for these animals instead of killing them. I'm shocked that they are sacrificing their reputation to do this. All around, totally fucked up.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — A Danish zoo that faced protests for killing a healthy giraffe to prevent inbreeding says it has put down four lions, including two cubs, to make room for a new male lion.

Citing the "pride's natural structure and behavior," the Copenhagen Zoo said Tuesday that two old lions had been euthanized as part of a generational shift. It said the cubs were also put down because they were not old enough to fend for themselves and "anyway would have been killed by the new male lion."

Zoo officials hope the new male and two females born in 2012 will form the nucleus of a new pride.

Last month the zoo triggered a wave of protests by killing a 2-year-old giraffe, and feeding its remains to the lions as visitors watched.

I know, it makes no sense. The anger I feel towards these so-called zoo officials is pretty strong.

It defies (my) logic and just breaks my heart.
