What's so bad about Creed?

I'll bite....
Well, Creed plays boring, derivative, paint by numbers music. And comparing the guy that's by far the best musician in his band with probably the weakest musician in PJ isn't the best way to back up your claim.0 -

Well first McCready is definitely not the weakest member of PJ lol. But I don't understand how Creed is boring I find when they came out they had brought a great new sound to rock music. What would you say makes them boring?0 -
Not everything has to be so dynamic & unique. All music is derivative IMO & sometimes that can be fun! I consider myself a music nerd and have all sorts of pointed views on the matter - now Creed? Not my cuppa' - but Hootie and the Blowfish? There is a great band who got swept up into record contracts because baritone lead singers were all the rage until ??www.cluthelee.com0

Well, a pretty good argument could be made for McCready being the weakest, but nobody with any musical knowledge would make an argument for any other member of Creed.Treyert14 said:DewieCox said:I'll bite....

They basically took the touchstones of what made "grunge" popular and wrote very formulaic music with it. There was nothing new about the songs they wrote.

Well when they first started with there first album they had a grunge sound.
But when they got up to weathered and human clay they were watered down a bit but I can't think of any other band that resembled Creed before there time. Which made Creed new, and different.0 -
I definitely agree! Hootie and the Blowfish is great!2-feign-reluctance said:Not everything has to be so dynamic & unique. All music is derivative IMO & sometimes that can be fun! Mark Tremonti was never considered to be a particulalry remarkable guitarist when he was in Creed, it was only when he cut loose in Alter Bridge that people started paying attention.
For me, Creed was pure pastiche, topped off by Stapp's awful Eddie Vedder impression - there is nothing natural sounding about his voice at all.
Creed essentially got big because Pearl Jam had had enough of being famous, Alice In Chains had dropped off the radar and Soundgarden had just split up - record companies wanted to fill the void, and the new generation of rock fans probably weren't quite old enough to have seen or heard the original Seattle bands, so the disparity in quality was probably not so apparent to them.
Obviously Creed had a knack for writing catchy songs that did well on the radio and sold well, but they did not do with their influences what the early Seattle bands did with theirs.

Alter Bridge proves Creed deserved every bit of the flak they took for being stale derivatives of not just other music, but even themselves after their first album. Tremonti himself is a riff machine, and I love his AB work.Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?0

Well it was only there 2 middle albums that kind of repeated themselves. But there first and last albums were unique to me. And yes Tremonti is a beast. Lol but I can't stand Miles Kennedy I'll listen to Scott any day but can't do Miles lolTheseGoToEleven said:Alter Bridge proves Creed deserved every bit of the flak they took for being stale derivatives of not just other music, but even themselves after their first album. So nobody here liked Creed when they first came out? Cause I kinda feel like alot of the hate towards them comes from overplay.0
