what does a decent frame job cost nowadays, $150?

    americanframe.com

I've used them for every single one of my prints. You have to put it together and wait to have it mailed to you, but it is a fraction of the cost of getting something custom framed in a store.
I use american frame also. Usually runs me about $80 for everthiing and most of the time I can find at least a 5% off coupon online. Sometimes I luck out and the frame I always use is on sale for 20% off.

Haha my wife gave me shit for passing on the Pitt and Charlotte posters. I told her I had them in the cart and decided against it cause I had spent a lot on vinyl lately - found some sweet mint condition Animals records from the early 60's.

I've wanted to use American frame before but I'm worried that I'm not going to properly measure the prints and my mattes, frame, and glass will all show up the wrong size and then I'm stuck with recycling materials.

My friend uses American Frame and loves it. He said it's super easy to do.

It's really easy, and as on2legs said, the cost is around $80 (for a larger print, I've found that it falls between $40-$80 depending on the print size). But larger prints would probably run $150-$200+ in a custom frame shop.

All you do is measure the EXACT dimensions of the print, then subtract 1/4-1/2 inch on either side. This gives room for the print to fit behind the mat. It's a pretty easy process and they help you through it step-by-step on the site. Hey, if I can do it, I'm sure you can as well :)

I think american frame automatically subtracts 1/4 inch from your print size when calculating the opening for the mat. Using their website is pretty easy... You enter the exact size of the print and then select frame, mat, etc and it determines all the dimensions for you. Haven't had a bad experience yet and I've ordered probably 10 frames from them.

Actually, I don't think they do, or at least they didn't in the past. I just had my 2013 Charlotte poster framed and subtracted the amounts and it fit fine. I remember the first time I attempted to have my 96 Charlotte framed - I gave the exact dimensions and the inside of the mat was too big and was useless. And it's always better to have too much overlap than not enough.

Maybe your using a different part of the website than I use, but I've never had to make any subtractions. The framing "wizard" software tells you they're subtracting 1/4 inch from the print size to allow the mat to slightly overlap.

Maybe you're right, I just pick the frame style I want, then color, etc., follow step-by-step on the site.
