Think the guys will every lay it down in the studio? or maybe they already have?

goes along will all the B sides from Pearl Jam, Backspacer, and Lightning Bolt...where they at? :D

Like when they use to release the singles and it would most the time have a b-side on it (Leatherman, Alone, Down, etc) was riot act the last album they did that with ?

Im curious to hear bsides from those past couple albums.

I hope so, but gut says no. The band seems to be in what I call more of a pop phase more than a rock phase. The more pop tunes to "sell" to the fans make the cut. The "rock" tunes can't sell.

My opinion, Of the Earth is the best tune they've done. Just pure rock that just hits you in the mouth.

I held up an Of the Earth sign in Oakland in hopes of them playing it at least once on the US tour. Eddie actually took the sign from me and said "Maybe later!" So I'm thinking later In the show. Nothing. Then to see it on the Seattle setlist and have it not get played. Heartbreaking. I love this song and have a few bootlegs where they sang it in Europe. By why nothing studio?? Why nothing on the recent tour?? Why no B side? Why not a cut on Lightning Bolt?? My questions are the same as yours and an answer we may never have...

I would guess it's been recorded a few times and it just didn't turn out to fit one of their records. Jeff mentioned it back in 2005 in an interview with MTV prior to Avocado:
So far, the band's written a total of 25 songs, but the final track listing will have around a dozen songs — and the decision about which tracks make the final cut largely rests with "Ed, because he's writing 95 percent of the lyrics," Ament said. But the bassist did reveal some potential song names: "Marker," "Crapshoot Rapture," "Worldwide Suicide," "Cold Concession," "2X4" and "Severed Hand."

Ament singled out two other tracks as his current favorites. "One is called 'Of the Earth,' that's a song Ed wrote that is kind of a cross between early Peter Gabriel/ Genesis and Sleater-Kinney with, like, the Who's Live at Leeds or something. There's also a song that Stone brought in that Ed wrote some great lyrics to [a song] called 'Parachutes.' That's probably one of my favorite pieces of music that Stone has written in a long time. It's got a beautiful melody."

According to the recording sessions guide:
    Dicembre 2004 Studio X - Seattle, WA
Ed Vedder - vocals, guitar; Stone Gossard - guitar; Mike McCready - guitar; Jeff Ament - bass; Matt Cameron - drum kit, percussion

    2x4
    Of The Earth
    Cold Confession
    World Wide Suicide
    Marker
    Armor
    Crapshoot Rapture
    Let It Ride

Since Crapshoot Rapture(Comatose), WWS, Cold Concession, and Let It Ride turned out to be legit tracks, there is little reason to doubt OTE wasn't also recorded here.

I hope that this bunch of songs which have previously not been released in a studio album, they might have plans to use them in some Lost Dogs 2 project. Only after that, we might see them getting live plays.

I hope this Lost Dogs 2 happens some time in late 2014 or early 2015.

And I think I am being totally reasonable with these dates.
What's your part, who you are?

Lost dogs 2 would be great. Never been a massive fan of 'of the earth'. I was at the dublin show first time it was played, and its cool to be there at the live debut but doesnt stand out as one of the best as some people say. Its good, but not great in my opinion.

Did "Armor" and "2X4" become songs? They seem to be the only two not accounted for?

Listening to Pensacola 2012 version now on PJ Radio. First time I've taken notice of the song. Mike's solo is unbelievable. Instant classic.

I remember a McCready interview of him being asked this. As far as I remember... he said he would love to write a legit solo to record it in studio, but they didn't have plans to do it at the moment. Maybe someone else knows where I read/heard that?

Not a fan of Of The Earth, messy song, tries to hard and sounds like bits of leftover songs stuck together. Glad it never made Lightning Bolt, but can see it appearing on a Lost Dogs II compilation or something.

It might be because they are writing better pop tunes than rock tunes. Of the Earth is a weak song. Feels forced and not together.

Hope they release a recording someday! (sooner than later please)

One of the best songs they've ever done IMO. Wish they'd record it and play it live more. Unfortunately, I just have a feeling its not gonna happen.

Where did you see the original Seattle setlist? Do you know of a good quality version of Of The Earth to download?

I bet there is a studio recording but it isn't released. We haven't had b-sides released with singles in a long while now. One has to assumed they are pooling songs for another lost dogs or something.

I bet it gets released around the same time they finally release their studio recording of Baba O' Riley.

It's believed that Of The Earth was recorded several times, but the band didn't like any of the takes. As a result, the live versions are all we have.
