"Furnace starts with a scowling, downbeat Eddie Vedder tune"
Downbeat? Scowling?
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm assuming the tune in reference is the new recorded version of "Release"? Or is there another EV song in the movie that's not getting as much attention as "Release" is?
Any info from anyone on here if it was just Ed doing the vocals all new over the original musical arrangement, or did he do a new arrangement / vocal just by himself, or did the rest of the guys come in and help record a new version?

It's Release at the beginning of the film. The film ends with a slightly different version recorded for the film.Lawrence 5.2.92

EV wrote other music for the movie as well, but the director decided the songs weren't right, so they were not used. I'd love to get my hands on them.Lawrence 5.2.92

So, the original "Release" from 1990 / 1991 at the beginning of the movie.
Then, a different and recently new recording of "Release" at the end of the film.
Correct?
My OCD taking over here, but I'd love to know if the rest of the PJ guys were involved in the re-arrangement of the original version for the the end of the film version of "Release". Or was it all Ed? I mean .... way, way back, Stone and Jeff originally wrote the MUSIC for what was to eventualy become "Release", right?
Or am I wrong - did EV write the lyrics AND write the music for the original "Release" way back in 1990 / 1991 while surfing in PB / San Diego?0 -
Didn't he only write the music for porch?
Hmm, but it seems this was Ed without the band. never heard Pearl Jam as a band mentioned in regard of the re-recording."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
So basically what it comes down to is this: Did Ed overdub new vocals on top of the existing official "Release" musical masters from 1991 for the "new" version of the song at the end of the film?
Or did he have the other PJ guys go in the studio with him and re-work , re-record, re-mix, and basically cover the original studio version of "Release"? Because if that were so .... that's a pretty damn big deal. To re-record an altogether masterpiece song, without much hype or fanfare behind it, in front of it.
I can't find any interwebs info this, but my gut feeling is that EV went into a studio and overdubbed new vocals over the original masters.
Hope not. I'd love to find out that the guys all went into a studio and recorded a totally new version of "Release".0
