I'm ok with Sirens but I'm having a hard time listening to My Father's Son, "I'm the next in line" lyric doesn't fit for me. :?
I'm really digging Getaway, Lighting Bolt and Infallible
wonder what the next single will be? :corn:
I love sirens man...maybe because I'm a bit older and like Steve Gleason said they have the been soundtrack of my life and I'm a Dad now so it relates through and through. I hear ya about Fathers Son, had that same feeling with Force of Nature, but its started growing on me A LOT! Now I really dig it...as with the whole album, turning into the classic grow on you Pearl Jam album, which is the case with the best ones.
As for next single I have a feeling its going to be Lighting Bolt. Its a GREAT song, turning out to be awesome live and its just a really great "Pearl Jam" song if you know what i mean.
If the sirens were the same kind of Sirens referenced in Force of Nature it would be more powerful.
Interesting take. When I saw the song title before hearing the song I thought that's what was coming. I love the song either way though. Gripping, powerful, and everything that makes Ed a brilliant lyricist.
"All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.
i don't particularly like the song, but don't dislike it either.
first time i heard it during the guitar solo part it reminded me of the background music on budwiser's "real american hero" radio commercials. now i think of having a bud every time i hear the song. okay, maybe not having one, but definitely the commercials.
Well, AT FIRST, I was sorta feelin' the same way about the song, especially the beginning; but after listening to it a few times, ... I fell in love with it and never looked back ... except to scold myself for doubting its beauty in the first place. I might add that such an initial response is not entirely uncommon. Think about it; while some songs grab us from the get go, there are (personally speaking) some tunes that take us (me) a while to warm up to. It's funny, one of the great things about Pearl Jam's music is that I am constantly finding something new to love about it ... whether it be songs from "Lightening Bolt" or any of their previous work.
I don't agree.
'Hear the sirens', is the first words from the first line of the song. If the first line didn't start with those words, I'd be more inclined to agree. For example:
Hear the sirens X2
Listen to the sound, the circus so profound.
In the end, nothing is as bad as "on my knees to rise and fix my broken soul.... again." Fuck, that's terrible.

LA night 1, had a few beers. Needed to go... Setlist was killer, so when does one go? Wait for Sirens, I said to myself. Sirens came, and I went. In that moment, Sirens was great.

EXACTLY!!!....My wife and I did the same thing in Dallas.
Like I said in the beginning....I get the beauty of it, the lyrics the music.....Its those damn sirens..."Hear the Sirens"........I have to piss.
I know the band is super proud of the song ,its powerful for sure....but the opening kills me.
I cant relate the sirens with the rest of the song.
Mike is killer on this song, esp the solo.....Eds lyrics in the verse are powerful/moving/meaningful
.....but those damn sirens......"hear the sirens"......ouch
Heard it live for the first time and was hoping it would convert me......BUZZ KILL
I know you'll all stone me for this.......but I'm having problems with it like no other Pearl Jam song.
I have a hard time not putting it on repeat for an hour or so...such an amazing song.
I agree with you 100%.
And I keep singing it, even while I am sleeping
Indeed not my most favorite CD but Sirens is one of my very favorite and beautiful songs, for me, especially the beginning and vibration of Eddie's voice
