PLEASE DON'T BUY CONCESSIONS AT THE LOS ANGELES SHOWS!!
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/mu ... z2lRkvSYbq
Apparently, there is a labor dispute with USC and IATSE local 33 and there will be a picket line at the shows.
It's boycott worthy, but here's the problem. You can't boycott something you have already purchased. Like those idiots a few years ago that bought French wine and poured it down the gutter in protest of France's position on iraq. The money you spent on the wine is going to the company that sells it (and probably no one associated with France, btw) If I don't go to the show it doesn't matter because I already bought the ticket and a portion of the money goes to USC either way. If no one shows up it doesn't matter because they get the money whether there is anyone there or not.
It sucks that I'm finding out about this the night before the show. If I had known before tickets went on sale I might have made a different decision.
Here's what I am going to do. I am boycotting concessions at the show (as a lot of us did at the forum in 2006). I ask everyone who is going to do the same. If you really care about the issue you should also contact USC and let them know that you support local 33 and now that you do know, you will be attending no more shows at the sports arena until the matter is resolved.
I think the band would agree, thank you for listening.

Don't buy concessions? I thought local 33 is stagehand and tech union. I don't believe they hand out hot dogs.0

I'll hire someone if they work hard and do well.
I'm pro union, you clearly are not. next.0 -

Fair enough. I suppose next time I won't "hijack" a post I don't agree with. I'll edit and erase. Sorry. Got caught up in the moment.“I suppose our capacity for self-delusion is boundless.” ― John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America0 -
Here's what this post is about:
"I am pro-union and bought a ticket to the PJ show not knowing there was a dispute. As you cannot boycott something you have already purchased, I would like to find a way to stick it to management as a show of solidarity to the workers."
and that's all it is about. If you hold a non union stance I don't have a problem with that. This is America, you have the right to:
A: an opinion
B: to voice it
I will only respond to imput on this specific circumstance, I will not debate.0 -

USC gets the profits, probably more than from tickets.
USC gets no profit from the tickets. They may get a cut from concessions, but def not tickets; that goes to the band."If you hate something, don't you do it, too."0 -
Could get confusing, make sure you join the correct line...one could have signs saying "picketing stagehands" and one could have signs saying "hand me a pick from the stage"
Be interesting to see how the band respond to this situation tho.Nature drunk and High0 -

It isn't 1991 anymore. Don't need to worry about that.
And buy all the concessions you want. Won't change anything and isn't the fans problem.0 -

You are cool. I wish i was in LA and would gladly take a boycotter's GA ticket. Don't worry about false sincerity.
If the poster were really that pro union he would skip the show or stand outside with a sign instead of reasoning with himself that "hey, I already paid for the ticket so I can still go to the event that is non-union." Total cop out.0 -

Neil cancelled show at the Forum in 2010 not 1991 because of labor issues. This topic is timely.0 -
Here's why i dont agree with this:
1) if usc breached their contract with the union labors, as the article quoted a union rep of saying, then their would be a lawsuit filed.
2) usc is a non-profit. You can disagree and tell me colleges are run like for profit businesses now, and i agree in part, but a non profit org has very little reason to use cheap labor. Also, this isnt your typical big business vs. small union dispute. Its a non profit vs. union.
3) are we sure that the other stagehands used arent pearl jams personal stagehands?0 -

I think you are wrong on this one. It's their building, why would you assume they don't get a cut of everything?0 -
Interesting, Ticketmaster stopped selling tickets to tonight's show sometime yesterday. I checked last night, and several times this morning. Probably doesn't mean anything, maybe a ticket drop soon, or maybe no show

Yes, but 4 million a year to pay a football coach has to come from somewhere....Post edited by breath123 on0
