IMO MFS is to LB what DTE is to Yield? A flat out grab you by the throat and slam you to the ground song. One of the best ever! It is a travesty that MFS and Getaway are not concert staples. Such a pity

I see mainly a trend that ties it up to Green Disease and to Force of Nature

  • I was lucky enough to catch it in Worcester up close and Jeff just rips that tune up!

Reminded me of push me pull me when played live. Anyone got a video?... :corn:

I understand taste is subjective, but I just don't get how everyone isn't going apeshit over this song! It just flat out rocks!
  • It starts out very much like Soundgarden's Dusty.

I always get confused for a few seconds when MFS comes up on my playlist

I heard it's debut in Buffalo and have enjoyed it since.
    My butt itches!
  • Best song on the record, IMO...I'm hoping (and optimistic) that they'll play it at one of the LA shows, which will be my only two of the tour.

Great song, and I'm sure it rips even more live...

I heard the exact same thing from the very first listen. I wonder if Matt C even realizes that at all. I bet he doesn't.

My absolute fav on LB. Incredible lyrics, vocals, riffs. Love the crazy bridge. I think it's the most interesting lyric Ed has ever written. I'm surprised everyone doesn't love it. Man, Ed's vocals toward the end... amazing.
My absolute fav on LB too. Was from the start.

I don't know. I really liked this song from the very first listen.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
  • And at this point it's as rareR live than Getaway.

Edited for fix. This song could actually become the holy grail from this album 8-)
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

  • Off the subject. . . . Hey OP, love your avatar, I have the same shirt. . . . what an awesome show!

Awesome show, awesome crowd. And the city used to have an awesome baseball team...

Yeah, Montreal's a great city and it was an awesome crowd at that show. . . . I only got my balls broken a little for my Bruins hat  . . . . . If PJ rolls through Montreal next year I will probably try to make that show again.

such an interesting idea... being trapped by our own genes.. cursed from the start. Raging against the most basic biological prison.... something we all inherit without any consent... a song that yearns for freedom from our most intrinsic construct.. crazy, man...

Had a tendancy to skip this song during the first 50 times or so I listened to LB. But why? Simply great track. Just wish one day I will hear a combo of My Father's Son into Green Disease.

That would be awesome, my thought was My Father's Son into Daughter into Mother or vice versa.

Getaway and My Father's Son were/are my favorites on the album since the first time I listed to it. Surprised they don't play them more and even more surprised that people actually don't enjoy this song? What's there not to like about it?

As far as I'm concerned, the 1-2-3 punch for Lightning Bolt ranks up there as some of their finest. Balls to the wall superb. And good god is Eddie ever ferocious in the way he belts it out at the end... "YEAAAHHHH you're finally dead and gone and I'm finally free to be meeee, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR FUCKED UP GIFTS, FOR WHICH I'VE GOT NO.... SYMPATHY...." Blew my mind the first time I heard it - this song is epic.
